There may soon be a new argument in favor of Sony’s PS Now service: the download of games. This would eliminate one of the major disadvantages of the streaming service: it currently does not work well for people with a weak network.
Game flat rate with a major catch: PlayStation Now is a streaming service for games offered by Sony. Players on the PS4 and PC have a wide selection of games available through the subscription, which they can play without downloading. Until now, a strong internet connection was necessary.
What’s new? A Reddit user discovered that there may now be the basis for a download feature. However, it is not yet functional.
Download PS Now Games?
New pause menu found: On Reddit, user satertek states that there is a new pause menu in PS Now. This is supposed to offer an option to download the game. The button is simply called “Download Game” and the description explains that you can return to the game details and start the download.
Players with weak networks want to download their games
No function yet: Currently, the feature does not work. Nevertheless, players are excited. For them, it is more important that this button is at least “there”. It could be a sign that Sony is indeed planning to implement such a download function for the PS Now service.
Fans have been waiting for a long time: For years, fans have been telling Sony that they want to download the PS Now games. However, Sony has insisted that PlayStation Now is a streaming service.
Internet problems: The library of PlayStation Now is impressive, many PS2, PS3, and PS4 games can be found there. However, to play these without interruptions, a stable and fast internet connection is essential. After all, the game is not installed on your hard drive, but streamed from the internet.
Advantages of downloads: If Sony were to offer a download function, there would be a significant advantage: latency would be considerably lower. Additionally, there would be fewer artifacts while gaming, as the transmission from the hard drive to the console would lose less data than streaming over the internet – especially if other people are using the internet connection.
Xbox is already on board: This type of download function is already familiar to users from the Xbox Game Pass. Subscribers can download games there.
What does this mean for you? Through downloads, the PS Now service could become interesting for many more users. This way, even users with slower internet could take advantage of the large selection of games without having to buy each game individually.
