Since April 11, it is now possible to change your PSN ID. We will show you how the name change works with a guide.
What is new? If you want, you can now change your display name for the PlayStation Network. This can be done through the PS4 itself or via a web browser.
Many players have wished for such a feature for a long time. Many simply prefer to have a different online name because they use it on other platforms, can no longer identify with their old name, or simply want a change.
In recent months, a beta phase has already been running, and now the program is being activated for everyone.
How much does the change cost? If you change your online ID for the first time, it is free. Each additional change costs €9.99. PS Plus members pay €4.99 for each additional change after the first.
If you switch back to an old ID, it is free. This is always available to you. After a change, no one else can use your old name.
You can change your IDs as often as you want.

How your friends can find you again: You have the option to display your old ID alongside the new one for up to 30 days after the change. This makes it easier for friends to remember the switch.
Change PSN Name on PS4 – Online ID
- Select “Settings” from the PS4 menu
- Select “Account Management” and then “Account Information,” “Profile,” and “Online ID”
- Enter an Online ID or select one of the suggested names
- Follow the instructions in the menu to complete the change
Note: You cannot make this change on the PS3 or PS Vita. Only on the PS4.
Change PSN Name in Browser – Online ID
- First, visit the page for your account on the PlayStation Network (here at sonyentertainment.com)
- At the top next to your ID, you will find the “Edit” button – select this
- Enter your desired Online ID or choose one of the suggestions
- Follow the instructions in the menu to complete the change
Which games support name changes on PS4?
Sony states that a large portion of the most-played PS4 games support this name change. However, the game must have been released on or after April 1, 2018. With older games, this does not work seamlessly.
Sony has published a list of tested games that support the name change. However, there are also some games for which there are severe issues. Sony warns against name changes with these PS4 games.
