In Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds there are numerous weapons, armor, and even vehicles that make the battle royale in the open-world PvP game even more fun. In two detailed blog entries, the developers explained the background of the weapons and vehicles.
Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is set to be an open-world PvP game where players kill each other on an island in a sort of “battle royale” until only one remains. To make the carnage work effectively, there are weapons and vehicles scattered all over the island. The developers have explained how they function and what lies behind them.
By the way, those who are unfamiliar with the term Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds can find everything they need to know about the game in our article on the background of the game.
A Feast for Weapon Lovers
In total, it is claimed that Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds will have 17 different weapons in the release version, categorized into the following groups:
- Pistols (two different)
- Revolvers
- Pump-action Shotgun
- Double-barreled shotgun
- Semi-automatic shotgun
- Assault rifles (four different)
- Submachine guns (three different)
- Light machine gun (LMG)
- Sniper rifles (three different)
Furthermore, the developers do not want to rule out the addition of more weapons after the release. Additionally, a selection of melee weapons is also planned for the future. All these weapons can be enhanced with accessories (scopes, silencers, etc.), and apart from the most powerful versions, the weapons are hidden in the world. Stronger weapons are expected to be obtained through care package drops. To protect against the weapons, players can equip themselves with vests and helmets.
Detailed Combat System
To ensure that the various weapons are used effectively, the developers have put a lot of effort into the shooting behavior. It should be as good and realistic as possible, and thus the game features a complex function for calculating the projectile trajectories. This takes into account not only the projectile speed but also gravity and distance to the target.

Shots at long range noticeably deviate and lose penetrating power. Additionally, all automatic weapons have a specific spread pattern that they release in continuous fire mode. Those who are often engaged in close combat can take advantage of this and effectively take out their opponents. Motorized Massacre
To avoid crawling through the vegetation on the deserted island forever, the developers have provided us with some vehicles. These are currently divided into five different types:
- Buggies (unique design)
- Jeeps (based on the Russian UAZ-469)
- Sedans (based on the Romanian Dacia 1300)
- Trucks (based on the Russian ZIL 313)
- Speedboats (based on the Russian PG-117)
These five vehicles can be found in the game, and there is a lot of work behind each vehicle. Even though most of the vehicles were inspired by real devices and their parameters and specifications could easily be transferred into the game, the work on the buggy, which had no real template, was significantly harder.
It takes numerous working hours and many virtual kilometers of test drives to ensure that a vehicle moves correctly and achieves a satisfying balance between collision behavior, server calculation time, and gameplay. On average, the developer responsible for the vehicles drove around 20,000 kilometers with each vehicle!
