PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has only been on the market for just under a month, but during this time it has already dethroned the previous battle royale champion H1Z1. More than 140,000 players played the online shooter simultaneously.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is climbing from one record to the next. The game from genre creator Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene and Bluehole Studios was already close behind main competitor H1Z1 shortly after launch and overtook ARK: Survival Evolved, for example, right away.
However, the big H1Z1 has now also fallen, and Battlegrounds is just ahead in the number of concurrent players.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds: More than 140,000 players simultaneously
According to the latest numbers from Steam, the number of active players in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is 140,104. This pushes it ahead of the previous battle royale champion H1Z1, which can attract “only” 137,985 concurrent players. Overall, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has seen a player increase of 242.36 percent in the first 30 days since launch.
The great success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds also led it to enter the (unofficial) Steam charts on April 23 at 16:00 under the “All-Time Top 10” of the most successful games. Currently, it occupies 9th place, ahead of H1Z1 and below the indie title Terraria with 158,000 players. Still at the top of this list is DotA 2 with a whopping 1.2 million simultaneous gamers. It may take several future updates before PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds reaches that point.
What do you think of the success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds? Honestly deserved or a completely unjustly overhyped game that is not even finished and full of bugs? Let us know in the comments!
