PlayerUnknown is known for essentially inventing the sub-genre of “battle royale” shooters by creating a mod for Arma 2. The genre has become so popular that there are numerous imitators, such as the H1Z1 spin-off King of the Kill.

After Brendan Greene could only react as a modder and wasn’t involved in the development of the games in question, he was finally allowed to join the studio Bluehole as the lead developer and create a game under his name. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is aimed primarily at the Twitch audience, emphasizing exciting action and dynamics.
In contrast to H1Z1, PUBG, according to an interview with a streamer on Polygon, “offers the gunplay of Arma 2 and H1Z1 while eliminating a large part of the bugs that otherwise hold back the genre.”
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds – Major Success After Just a Few Days in Early Access
PlayerUnknown’s fans seemed to have only been waiting for the early access release of the game because as soon as the game was out, it was purchased en masse and streamed on Twitch. A total of 3,600 streams took place, with more than 150,000 concurrent viewers.
The significant demand was, of course, also a financial success for the studio, as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has already generated over 11 million USD in revenue on Steam within four days of release. The figures come from developer Bluehole.
