Players have found a trick in the Battle Royale Call of Duty: Warzone to bypass weak starting weapons. They simply choose what they find – at least to a certain extent. But this is certainly not intended.
What is this exploit? Some players have discovered that they can “take” their starting weapons from the warm-up rounds before a Warzone match. This gives them an unfair advantage over others.
To do this, the weapon must be dropped at a specific time. It will then remain where it was dropped and can be picked up and used immediately after the start of the round. However, only the weapons assigned to you during warm-up are available.
Since this is most likely an unintended mechanic, we will not provide an exact description and advise everyone not to attempt it to avoid risking a ban. In our tests on PC and PS4, the timing was only achievable with a lot of practice.
Unfair advantage at the beginning
What is the benefit of this exploit? Players bypass the often weak weapons that can be found on the ground at the beginning. Especially since the rework of the M4 variants, which now only exist in Warzone in burst mode, many of the early weapons are quite unpopular.
Weapons from the warm-up round are generally stronger than the gray and green weapons at the start. If the “cheated” weapons have certain attachments, even secret effects like increased movement speed can be transferred.
How does this happen? We cannot say exactly how the exploit occurs. However, there was already a trick circulating that allowed players to start a match with money and armor. This was also related to precise timing.
So far, the bug has not yet been listed as such on the official Trello of the developers. It is still unclear when it will be fixed.
The trick apparently works on all platforms – PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The issue with cheaters is therefore no longer just one that primarily affects PC players. Recently, we reported on a problem that cheaters specifically create on PS4 and Xbox One. This is due to a specific hardware.
