Every player of Crimson Desert knows him: Yann. The one buddy of the friend group who is always in trouble and when he isn’t in trouble, he comes up with ideas that definitely get him into more trouble.
Who is it about? Yann is something like the tutorial character in Crimson Desert. He is constantly getting into trouble that we have to rescue him from, and his appearances always cause chaos.
Players are supposed to learn many functions of the game through him. They can wrestle in the mud for him, expose cheaters while playing cards, or hunt down criminals via bounty hunting.
Half the time is spent with him riding over the fields and villages of Crimson Desert while the character Kliff drones on with his comments. But there is a problem with him.
Rokade is fast, but with Yann, it only goes at a walking pace through the game:
Too annoying for the tutorials
What is the problem? While Yann was chosen as a tutorial character by the developers, he is too annoying for his role. Since the release, players have developed a real hatred for his incessant chatter and his slow rides through the landscape, which feel like content blockers in such an action-packed game.
For this reason, many players avoid quests with him and prefer to focus on the fun parts of Crimson Desert first. However, this makes the situation even worse, as players learn about game mechanics particularly late or discover something they already knew after countless hours.
This makes the character even more annoying for many, as not only is Yann constantly in trouble, but he explains to the fully equipped Kliff after 40 hours of gameplay how to play cards or track down a bounty target.
How do players feel about Yann? For players, Yann is simply annoying. Under a post on Reddit that is titled as a meme “Yann has been removed from the game”, players vent their frustration about the probably most unlikable character in Crimson Desert:
- Aldertree: “Yann: ‘Hey, Kliff! Come here, I need to talk to you about something.’ Kliff: ‘We’re going for another ride where you disappear right before we arrive, right?'”
- CousinOkrii: “I like how his quests introduce the bounty system and the gambling system about 40 hours into the game. Then you chop wood after you already needed to do it earlier. The guy serves no purpose.”
- Logical-Operation512: “Sometimes I wish there was a bounty with his face on the poster, just because he’s so annoying lol”
However, there are also players who like him as a character, simply because he fits well with the gray manes:
- esotericvoid: “His quests, sure. But I like his character in relation to the others.”
- Instantcoffees: “Yeah, I wouldn’t like him as a person, but I like him as a character.”
- Free_Amoeba5213: “If you needed people to smash skulls, you’d definitely want Yann to fire people up.”
The developers of Crimson Desert meant well and included a tutorial character in Yann. However, after significant progress in the game, he becomes quite annoying, resulting in many eye-rolls from the fans.
