On Reddit, a player initiated a discussion around Black Desert and the topic of environmental protection. However, players are divided on the issue.
According to some players, those who want to stay on top in Black Desert rely on using the game’s AFK activities. The computer must always be running in the background.
Black Desert offers legal bots with a catch
In Black Desert Online, players can engage in many activities without needing to sit at their computers. From horse training to fishing to EXP grinding, much is possible. Many Black Desert players enjoy strengthening their characters or passively earning money while going about their daily lives. The game ultimately provides legal bots that are an important part of the gameplay. Nevertheless, some players resort to hacks and illegal bots.

The computer must run 24/7: However, many AFK activities have a catch. Players must remain online for their characters to complete the “programmed” tasks. If the computer is turned off or a player logs out and exits Black Desert, the digital avatar stops working as well.
Player demands: “Make AFK activities offline”
Criticism of the AFK system: A Black Desert player has taken to Reddit to express this and hopes to reach the publisher of Black Desert in the West, Kakao Games. He himself paid several hundred euros for electricity alone in the last five years, just to keep Black Desert running on his computer while he works.
He views this situation critically, as no real value is generated for the electricity consumed. In his opinion, there is nothing against allowing certain AFK activities to be offline to save electricity.

Conflicting opinions: The Black Desert community is divided on this issue. Some players clearly advocate for the possibility of allowing AFK activities to be offline.
- Anyone who wants to excel in PvP or in the numerous economic aspects of Black Desert relies on AFK activities. Not all players can afford this luxury.
- On Xbox One, entirely different problems arise. Compared to PC, players there cannot simply play something else while their characters go about their tasks.
- Especially with regard to consumerism and climate change, keeping the PCs running continuously would be problematic. Energy comes from power plants that operate with coal or nuclear energy.
Another part of the players is critical of the demand to allow AFK activities offline.
- In their opinion, AFK activities are unnecessary to compete in PvP. Players simply gain an additional source of income for the in-game currency silver.
- Players would run multiple accounts simultaneously, flooding the market with resources. This is currently being curtailed because an additional computer must be on for each account.
“Black Desert will never allow that”
Players are also actively commenting in the Reddit post, explaining why developer Pearl Abyss or publisher Kakao Games will never enable AFK activities to be offline.
- Because AFK activities require constant logging in, player numbers are artificially inflated. By adding lucrative AFK activities, players are pushed to remain logged in permanently.
- Moreover, players easily gain access to the cash shop this way, where they can purchase efficiency-boosting costumes, such as the Venecil costume set.

Do players really want to save the environment? Of course, some players on Reddit clearly advocate for environmental protection. They dislike the idea of their computer running while they are out of the house.
Yet there are also some players on Reddit who advocate for offline AFK bots, as it would allow them to farm items and money even more efficiently with multiple accounts.
What do you think? Would you support the removal of the online requirement for AFK features, or do you clearly speak against it?
