In Fallout 76 special weapons have existed for more than three years that players can use. They are called Legacys and are the most powerful in the entire wasteland. So powerful that you can easily defeat every boss solo. Bethesda has watched this spectacle long enough, as they will soon be fixed with high probability.
What are Legacys? Legacys refers to certain items in Fallout 76 that can no longer be obtained. Weapons that have perks that players can no longer drop or armor that could be modified through glitches.
There are many Legacys items in Fallout 76, but some of them are particularly popular, and these include laser or plasma weapons.
These weapons could drop with explosive ammo as a perk three years ago. However, this perk has only caused problems with the weapons and made them the strongest weapons in the game. Bethesda noticed this and ensured with a patch in September 2019 that they could no longer be obtained.
Now, after three years, players on the new private test server have found that they cannot keep their powerful weapons forever, as they will soon be fixed.
The reign of unfairness ends after 3 years
What will change? According to Bethesda and a blog post, players should not worry if some weapons they own suddenly undergo changes. According to the developers, illegal mods will be removed from your items, which can no longer be obtained in the game.
Bethesda explicitly refers to weapons here, but we assume that some modified power armors could also be affected. The following items may fall under this:
- The Dragon and black powder weapons with 419 range
- Excavator power armor and helmets with jetpacks
- Radium, harpoon, laser, and plasma weapons with explosive ammo
- Nuka paddle ball
- Nuclear winter weapons

These adjustments aim to restore balance so that every player can have the same opportunities for the same experience in Fallout 76.
What problems have Legacys caused? Legacys have divided the community. Essentially, there were either the overpowering wastelanders with a legacy or players who did not have one. Players without a legacy still have to fight through activities and events, while legacy owners can pulverize everything in no time with their weapon.
Because of this fact, some players in the community saw a business opportunity with real money. For example, Legacys are being sold at exorbitant prices on eBay. If this change is implemented in the upcoming update, your legacy weapon will be worth nothing.
Our tip: Try to sell your weapon on the market. Either for resources, chems, or caps. You can also leave it to a player who does not own a legacy yet. This way, you won’t have a total loss and also do something good.
What do you think of the change? Do you think it’s good that Bethesda is finally putting these Legacys in check and ensuring more equality? Let us know in the comments!
