Have you ever seen the comments on social networks that continually claim a game is dead? Fortnite is frequently confronted with such statements and is now responding with a skin.
Fortnite has been running Season 4 Chapter 3 since September 18 and, as usual for the battle royale shooter, there are again some new skins. Some of them are part of the Battle Pass of Season 4, which players call one of the worst Battle Passes. Others can be purchased with the so-called V-Bucks. Among them is also a new skin that refers to very specific comments from players.
What is this skin about: The new skin in Fortnite is part of the “Checkered Past” pack. The character skin is black with accents of a checkerboard pattern. “Dead Game” is written on the front of the T-shirt.

Why is there this skin? Fortnite is called a dead game over and over again on social networks, especially on Twitter. If you’ve ever looked at the comments under a Fortnite post, it’s very likely you could have seen the phrase “Dead Game” somewhere.
When introducing the skin via Twitter, the official Fortnite account writes:
- “*reads comments, *designs outfit, result: Checkered Past Pack.”
With this, Epic Games confirms that the skin is based on the “Dead Game” comments.
Why do players write “Dead Game”? Players repeatedly post the two words that declare Fortnite dead under the shooter’s Twitter posts. It’s not always a serious claim; it’s often made in jest. However, there rarely is a deeper reason or constructive criticism behind those comments.
Players often post the words without providing any evidence for the claim. You can also see this in the following examples, which can be found not only under official Fortnite posts:
- “Fortnite is an L. It’s a dead game” (via Twitter)
- “Dead Game” – As a comment on the announcement of the “Fortnite Discord Quests” (via Twitter)
- “Dead game, we are playing Roblox now” (via Twitter)
- “Dead Game” – As a comment on a YouTuber’s post (via Twitter)
Fortnite is certainly not an exception. It’s quite possible that you have read or heard similar comments about other games. It doesn’t matter if you play League of Legends, CS:GO, Rainbow Six: Siege, Apex Legends, or any other major game. Comments of this kind can appear anywhere.
