The new loot shooter “The First Descendant” launched on Steam on July 2nd. The game is free-to-play, but aims to extract money from players through microtransactions. With the “Ultimate Bunny” skin, the developers seem to have struck the right chord with some users: although the “Ultimate Bunny” skin is expensive, it is already causing a stir.
That’s the thing with skins:
- Typically, a character’s appearance in role-playing games changes with the armor they wear.
- However, in free-to-play games, it is common that armor does not affect appearance, and instead, players need to purchase cosmetic items known as skins to change the appearance of a hero. This is the case in the most profitable free-to-play games such as Fortnite or League of Legends.
- Individual skins vary greatly in rarity, quality, and price: a “recolour” only changes a character’s color and is considered low quality, while high-quality and high-priced skins transform a character, often offering new voice lines or animations.
- The ultimate skins in The First Descendant not only change a character’s appearance but also make them stronger by increasing their base stats, for example.
€60 skin causes a stir in The First Descendant
This skin is what’s causing a stir in The First Descendant: The “Ultimate Bunny” skin is making waves in The First Descendant.
In a reddit thread, the rear-free skin of the heroine is depicted in 3 different images and extensively commented on:
- “Just the Ultimate Bunny alone will probably bring them millions of $”
- “My 20-year-old son was sitting next to me while I played this yesterday. He was silent the whole time. Then he mumbled, “Destiny with strippers, I have to download it” and disappeared.
- “Bro, this is so crazy and sexy – how do I get the skin?”
Skin can be purchased for a lot of money or earned through hard work
How expensive is the skin? If you buy the skin, you will have to dig deep into your pockets: The skin costs 3,000 caliber, around €60 or you can buy the bundle for about €100.
However, there is also a way to grind for the skin in the game, which requires 2.7 million gold and 14 ingredients.
This discussion is triggered by the skin: On reddit, there is serious discussion about why people buy the skin, whether there are any sexual intentions behind it, and whether players then only play with one hand.
One user explains: That’s not the point. A skin like this is like OnlyFans. It’s about establishing a close connection with a beautiful woman. And for the money, you can at least look at something very beautiful for hundreds of hours while grinding.
Even though the skin in The First Descendant is expensive now and sparks discussions, it cannot be compared to the “Ahri” skin of the iconic player Faker in League of Legends. The skin was so decadently expensive that players felt like tearing down Riot Games’ office. More on the discussion surrounding the skin that caused so much controversy: LoL players are so angry that they want to permanently ban a heroine in every game to really show Riot
