The Switch 2 is celebrating its release day and many fans can finally hold their highly anticipated console in their hands. But for some players, the excitement was quickly dampened when they unpacked their packages. Because in the box is a broken console, and the culprit is the receipt.
What are the disappointed players reporting? On X there are numerous posts where players vent their frustrations. They have received consoles that have a damaged display – all with a very similar problem.
Because on the display of their Switch 2, each has two small holes that are still clearly visible even when the screen is on. These holes can be found on the box and the thin plastic bag in which the console is packaged for sale.
This is particularly frustrating, as the Switch 2 is sold out in many regions and cannot be reordered quickly. The consoles that report such a defect come from the United States of America and were sold there by GameStop.

Display instead of just receipt stapled
How did the holes get into the screen? Comparing the posts of the upset players, it becomes clear that these holes are exactly where GameStop stapled their receipts directly onto the original box. This box seems to be so thin that the staples went right through the box and the plastic bag into the display.
The fans are understandably upset and share their experience on social media. On one hand, because they consider GameStop’s handling of the console thoughtless, but on the other hand, they also wonder how such an expensive console can be packaged so thinly that staples can cause such damage:
- So @AncientArgonaut writes via X: ‘I knew this would happen – it was a strange decision by Nintendo to place the screen with the front side at the top of the box and only protect it with the thin box.’
- ‘GameStop stapled the receipt for the Switch 2 to the box for me and my friends. FML,’ posts @Oadhan via X, ‘Really crazy, now I have to wait 3 months for the replacement.’
- Konflick writes in his now-deleted Reddit post: ‘It seems like the same thing happened to all of them with their boxes. Over 100 people were there tonight.’
So far, GameStop has not commented on these incidents, but it is likely that affected individuals will receive a replacement console. Although it is uncertain whether this will be possible promptly due to high demand.
