Monster Hunter Wilds offers its dedicated hunters a wide range of different hunting tools and useful items. One type of item seems to particularly captivate the player base, as they are blowing themselves up en masse.
What do the hunters use to blow themselves up? Barrel bombs have always been an important tool for many hunters in various Monster Hunter generations. They return in Monster Hunter Wilds and can even be thrown and rolled.
If players let them explode, they can cause high damage, affect the environment – or make sure that they blow each other or themselves up. As the bombs are not easy to control, things often go differently than expected.
This leads to all sorts of creative, tragic, and funny situations that the community is more than happy to share and take with humor.
An Explosive Matter
What situations do players find themselves in? The situations that fans share range from “absolutely chaotic” to “bad luck” to “brilliant”:
User Wanker_Danker vividly shows in his post on Reddit how difficult it is to properly control the barrel bombs. He ambushes the sleeping Nu Udra in his cave, places a barrel bomb at the entrance, steps back, and throws a second one – off to the side. To make matters worse, it rolls away to the side and explodes there, waking the monster, of course.
sappiiii shows in his post on Reddit how a seemingly clever idea can backfire. With the title “After 80 hours my biggest brain fart yet,” he shares a similar situation he had with his group against Nu Udra:
The hunters pack a bunch of barrel bombs in front of the entrance to the octopus’s cave. sappiiii takes one of the bombs and quickly throws it into the cave, and while Nu Udra takes damage, he slips past the meticulously placed other bombs. In his panic, the user draws his weapon and – hits the pile of barrel bombs causing him and his colleagues to fly around.
User deletedmessages also dramatically illustrates on Reddit how quickly one can blow oneself and their teammates up:
Other hunters have better luck with their endeavors, even if they don’t go as expected. User @2hKX3zpWWZxVVbY shares a video via x.com where he and his group take on a sleeping Yian Kut-Ku. They also place a bunch of barrel bombs by the monster.
When they are done, one of them throws another bomb – completely off target. However, it rolls so fortuitously that it causes an environmental aspect to explode, which then splats onto the monster and still makes the pile of bombs explode.
animblo discovers by chance that the particularly powerful attack from Jin Dahaad can be survived in the ice shard cliffs if one blows oneself up at the right moment. He shares his experience with the community via Reddit.
