The upcoming patch in Atlas is expected to bring such significant changes that the developers want to reset the servers. However, the knowledge of this reset is driving players to the brink of despair and diminishing their interest in the game.
Why is there a server wipe? The announced major March patch is set to make changes to worlds, claims, and the war system.
These changes, especially regarding the conquests, are so extensive that the gameplay is expected to change significantly. This is why the developers are planning a server reset so that all players start with the same conditions.
However, this patch keeps getting delayed. The latest update is that it will be played on the test servers on April 3. There is still no date for the release of the update.
Why are the announcements causing problems? Since the announcement of the server wipes, players know that their current progress will be lost.
This leads many to lose their enthusiasm and motivation for the game. Since mid-March, there have been recurring threads on Reddit where players yearn for the server wipe.
There were also many April Fools’ jokes around the wipe on April 1. Only many players find the delays no longer funny.
The player numbers of Atlas are decreasing
Atlas launched strongly on Steam in Early Access despite all criticism. However, the numbers dropped significantly in February and March.
The Steam charts say: In the last 30 days, an average of about 2,700 players played Atlas. The peak was 8,710. Just in February, over 11,000 players were playing Atlas on average, and the peak was significantly higher at over 25,000.
Although the MMO has been experiencing a downward trend since January, the numbers have particularly dropped percentually since the announcement of the new patch.
Are there enough players for the server split? Many players currently criticize the planned split of the servers from Atlas.
The PvP servers are planned to be split into a mode for small companies (2-50 players) and a mode for large companies (up to 250 players). Additionally, there are servers with a PvE mode.
Even at the announcement, people joked on Reddit that there wouldn’t be enough players for three modes. Currently, it seems that these voices may be right.
Our author Benedict took an extensive look at the game again in February:
