In Helldivers 2, players discuss whether the strongest weapons – the Railgun and the Breaker – need a nerf or if all other weapons require a buff.
In Helldivers 2, you have various weapons and tactical gear at your disposal. Some of them are explosive but less powerful, while others dominate the tier list of the best weapons. In brief: Some excel in firepower, while others stand out due to their special effects.
This has led to a portion of the community discussing the balancing of the cooperative shooter just a few weeks after release. While some call for nerfs for strong weapons, others want buffs for weaker ones.
Weapon Balancing in Helldivers 2 – The Community is Divided
What do players say about the balancing? Reddit user “soloman-romero” addressed the Helldivers 2 community with clear words, demanding: “Stop asking for nerfs.” Instead, he would prefer buffs for the underpowered weapons, rather than weakening the strong ones (via Reddit).
The user picks up on demands from the player base of the cooperative shooter, who are already wishing for certain weapons and gear to be weakened just weeks after release. For instance, the Railgun, the Breaker shotgun, and the shield generator backpack are significantly stronger than their alternatives, making them indispensable for the best loadout.
The call to stop asking for nerfs received over 5,100 upvotes in just one day. Many players also agreed in the comments. One user stated that at the highest difficulty level, he wishes for “even bigger guns with even more firepower” (via Reddit).
Additional comments on the topic:
- ProfiAd2203 via Reddit: “Don’t nerf the Railgun, buff the other anti-tank options.”
- itsmehonest via Reddit: “Since it’s a PvE game, can we all agree that only buffs are needed, not nerfs, right?”
- jeffQC1 via Reddit: “I’m not suggesting nerfing the SG-225 Breaker; all other weapons should be buffed […]. Basically, all weapons need to be able to compete with it.”
When it comes to nerfs, the shield generator backpack and the Railgun are primarily mentioned. Players on social media are already proposing ways to partially weaken them:
- ChineseCosmo via Reddit: “Currently, the shield generator backpack is too good not to use, which isn’t really healthy for the state of the game. An even bigger problem is that it’s somewhat mindless. You just put it on and forget it.”
- farmermarinarina via Reddit: “I feel like the Railgun is too OP at the moment. It makes other anti-tank options somewhat redundant. It doesn’t require a backpack or another person to be effective, like the recoil-free rifle or the spear. It can destroy large parts of armor with just two shots. It can be reloaded while moving and is very fast.”
Whether Arrowhead wants to implement buffs or nerfs to the weapons and tactical gear of Helldivers 2 anytime soon remains to be seen. Currently, the developers are very busy getting the servers up and running: Players want more servers in Helldivers 2, but the head says: ‘It’s not a matter of money’
