In the past few weeks, players in Helldivers 2 had to fend off an attack from robots. Now, a player believes that the Over-Earth was not the target at all.
In Helldivers 2, there are currently two enemy factions, the robots and the Terminids. The robots launched an offensive in February and attacked various planets. Meanwhile, there was a general order to fend off the robot attacks and to play at least 8 defense campaigns.
The brave Helldivers and Over-Citizens have of course assumed that the robots want to disrupt the peace and democracy of the Over-Earth, but a Reddit user has now expressed the suspicion that the nasty machines have a completely different plan.
Player believes robots want to reach the Cyborgs
What does the user believe the plan of the robots is? The user has the theory that the robots are not heading towards the Over-Earth but are instead trying to reach the planet Cyberstan in the Validis Sector.
He further states that the robots are trying to reach their “masters” there, and it is our task to prevent that from happening.
What is the significance of Cyberstan? Although we have not yet been active in the Validis Sector in Helldivers 2, the planet Cyberstan is quite well known to players of the first part.
In Helldivers 1, Cyberstan was known as the home planet of the Cyborgs. The Cyborgs are similar to the robots, a hostile faction made up of former humans who led a rebellion against the Over-Earth and were obsessed with the cybernetic augmentation of their bodies.
Did the Cyborgs create the robots? That is just the theory of the Reddit user. Currently, we do not know anything about the origin of the robots and cannot say whether they are indeed their “masters.”
In the description of the faction on the PlayStation website, it only states: “Their origin remains a mystery, but their incredible hatred for freedom makes them a danger to all citizens of the Over-Earth.”
Nevertheless, the Cyborgs and the robots do share some similarities. For example, there are enemy types in both factions named “Berserker” and “Hulk.” Additionally, both the Cyborgs and the robots have heavily armed tanks among their ranks.
Couldn’t the Over-Earth also be the origin of the robots? Theoretically yes, even if the authorities of the Helldivers would of course not admit that.
The Over-Earth does possess advanced technology, as shown by tactical equipment like the railgun or the shield generator backpack. The spaceships of the Helldivers are also technologically very advanced.
Furthermore, the Helldivers have heavily armed mechs, large robot-like machines that can be used in combat. While you can’t control these mechs in Helldivers 2 yet, there are hints that they may be added to the game in a future update: In Helldivers 2, you may soon be able to fight in mechs, a video gives hope.
