The changes to Hearthstone are not liked by everyone. Many players feel that Blizzard is “patching out the fun” with the Hall of Fame.
Blizzard has unveiled the future of Hearthstone and created a rough plan for where the journey with the “Year of the Raven” should go. While most players are looking forward to the new expansions and the planned tournament mode, there is also a lot of criticism regarding the banning of three more cards to the “Hall of Fame”.
Three cards are to be banned and will only be playable in Wild Mode:
Molten Giant
Ice Block
Deep Sea Oracle
Mixed reactions to the Hall of Fame
The fans’ reactions to this are very mixed. While the Molten Giant is shrugged off by most players, the Ice Block and Deep Sea Oracle are viewed differently.
The Ice Block was a particularly important card for many players that clearly contributed to the identity of the Mage. Being able to play “beyond death” was a unique feature that only the Mage mastered. Many decks relied on the Ice Block to buy just the right amount of time to wipe out the opponent in the next turn.
The disappearance of the Deep Sea Oracle, on the other hand, is hotly debated. The fact is that this will lead to the death of the entire archetype of a deck. A “Mill Deck” that is based on making the opponent draw too many cards so that he “burns” cards and eventually dies of exhaustion will hardly be playable anymore. The justification from Blizzard is that the card provides too strong “neutral” card draw and thus dilutes the identity of some classes. But as long as the card is in the game, other effects in development would also be restricted, such as Battlecry or effects that return a card to the hand.
In the various Blizzard forums, there are always accusations that the developers have a “fun detector” and that as soon as something outside the desired meta is fun, a “FUN DETECTED” sensor goes off and immediately a patch or nerf is applied. No wonder that once again Reddit is flooded with such statements.
What do you think about the disappearance of these three cards from the game? Is it good for game balance? Or does it rather reduce the variety of decks?
