Destiny 2 has introduced legendary Stasis weapons in Season 15, a nasty element that was previously reserved for Exotics. MeinMMO examines how these new guns fit into the sandbox and what concerns the Guardians had about them.
What players were afraid of: At the launch of Beyond Light in November 2020, the new ice ability Stasis was introduced. And it confirmed all players’ fears: Slowing, freezing, and shattering was pure Stasis terror. Especially in PvP, frustrated players could only watch as opponents calmly turned them into tiny ice cubes once frozen.
Only when Bungie introduced massive nerfs for the ability did the situation improve. So, it’s no wonder that the new legendary Stasis weapons introduced in the current Season 15 made players skeptical.
Since the Season of the Lost, there have been four legendary Stasis weapons and a new exotic Stasis weapon. For Bungie, this is another step towards integrating the new damage type Stasis into the current sandbox.
Until now, players only had exotic representatives among Stasis weapons available for their loadout:
- The grenade launcher Grip of Salvation
- The exotic pistol Cryosthesia 77K
This disappointed the Guardians: Both exotic Stasis guns were only moderately useful and ultimately did not resonate well with players. The grenade launcher was used by players for a few specific quests. After that, it was only pulled out for building creative ice towers or bridges.
The exotic pistol came into the game via the season pass in Season 14. It was able to freeze opponents, causing some temporary tremors in PvP. Then it disappeared back into players’ collections.
At that time, it was not a good start for the new weapon element Stasis.
Legendary Stasis weapons are set to enhance the Season 15 sandbox
These new ice weapons are: In Season 15, Guardians are expected to regain trust in the element on their weapons through four new legendary representatives.
- Hand cannon “Vulpecula”: Obtainable through seasonal quests such as the Prism Converter and Astral Alignment
- Shotgun “Fracthethyst”: Available at Season Pass level 30 for everyone and also from the same sources as the hand cannon
- Pistol “Peace Treaty”: Available only in Iron Banner
- Linear fusion rifle “Reed’s Regret”: Play the new Trials of Osiris
How do Stasis weapons perform in PvP and PvE?
This is what they can do in the Crucible: Players’ concerns about the new legendary Stasis weapons in PvP have not been confirmed. Bungie has ensured that legendary Stasis perks with slowing or freezing effects must always trigger first.
The weapons are indeed enjoyable to play in PvP. Moreover, no one is invincible or overpowered with them. Here, Bungie has done a good job with balancing.
This is what they can do in PvE: As energy weapons in PvE, however, all four weapons are currently at a slight disadvantage. There are currently no enemies with Stasis shields. While Bungie has given some PvE enemies Stasis damage, the new armor mods against Stasis are more important for this.
They now use icy incense vessels instead of solar. Some Taken unleash ice thunder on you, making old strikes tougher.
So, do you have any reason to play the weapons in PvE right now? Yes, but not just because of the pure Stasis damage. It’s rather the new perk Graviton, which the community currently views as a significant advantage on legendary Stasis weapons.
What can the new Stasis perk Graviton do?
Graviton causes precise kills to create a Stasis crystal at the enemy’s location. This synergy and the utility of it are currently almost unrivaled in the game – this also impresses expert Drewskys (via YouTube).
You can use the perk to passively push abilities. In PvE, this can be easily triggered against weak enemies. It creates a lot of fun, regardless of which class you are currently playing with Stasis focus. Especially with the right fragments and aspects , interesting combinations emerge.
That’s why the perk is worth it: Thanks to the aspect “Whispers of Chains,” you take less damage near Stasis crystals. When shattering a crystal, you increase the reload rate of your grenade energy. This excellently supports the Dusk Wielder, one of the most popular Stasis Warlock aspects. If you play this with the new perk Graviton, the Stasis turret becomes available faster again when you shatter the crystal.
With it, you can keep mass amounts of enemies at bay. Through the seasonal artifact, you can also stop unstoppable champions with the pistol. A build combination of Stasis turret and the pistol would thus be conceivable as an option in more difficult activities.
The new exotic “Ager’s Scepter” outshines its legendary predecessors
In addition to the current legendary Stasis weapons, there is also a new exotic representative since September 14: Ager’s Scepter.
The Stasis slug rifle does many things better right from the start than its exotic Stasis siblings. Especially with the catalyst, which can be obtained as a random drop after completing the “Astral Alignment” activity in the Dreaming City, this weapon exotic is already one of the best for PvE.
How good are the new Stasis weapons for the sandbox?
Unlike their exotic predecessors, there is simply much more potential here. Thanks to the perk Graviton, it is a lot of fun to catch your enemies cold. Even if you’re not playing a Stasis focus, your team can still benefit from it.
It will be exciting to see what perks Bungie will still introduce for legendary Stasis weapons in the game. The sandbox of Destiny 2 has already benefited well from the new weapons. Both visually and in weapon handling, they all do a good job.
Have you tried the new legendary Stasis weapons and created new builds with them? Or do you find them completely useless at the moment, unable to break shields? Let us know in the comments what you think of Bungie’s latest legendary damage type.
