This week, Destiny 2 announced new information about increasing the difficulty in PvE. Due to power level disadvantages and other adjustments, Guardians will again find it harder in Lightfall. However, the community is not thrilled about this. And now a well-known streamer is said to be to blame. MeinMMO will tell you what’s going on.
Which YouTuber is currently in the spotlight? After Bungie published its blog post about the tougher approach in PvE last week, the community is discussing this.
- Many Guardians have expressed their concerns about the new difficulty in Destiny 2 and the potential problems associated with it in social media forums.
- The German Destiny community also vented its frustration about it on MeinMMO .
Other Guardians are directly blaming the content creator Stefan “Datto” Jonke from the Destiny 2 streamer elite. He is now said to be responsible for everything. The reason: His comments on the topic in a video were supposed to be the catalyst for these changes.
How Datto turned the community against him: The catalyst for the players was a 26-minute video that Datto released on February 22. That is, one day before Bungie’s latest blog post was published.
- In the video, he explained that some of the changes, such as increasing the difficulty level that Bungie is implementing for the endgame of Destiny 2, are good for the future of the game.
- He also supported the decision to promote more skillful and coordinated gameplay in difficult encounters. After all, challenging content should be difficult to correspond to powerful rewards.
This positive assessment of the changes, however, did not sit well with all Destiny players. Some thought he was responsible for Bungie’s thinking that everything should be unnecessarily harder.
Players “resign” Datto’s community membership
Datto has always polarized: The Destiny veteran Datto has long been known for giving personal comments on the game’s problems. This makes him a polarizing figure in the Destiny 2 community, especially when his views positively advocated for the less popular changes.
A post on reddit, which was deleted after only 20 minutes, publicly criticized Datto for his “elitist” attitudes, calling for a distancing from him. So to speak, the first “official resignation” of a streamer by the community.
Should he be in the position he is in? Why is he “the Destiny guy”? If his opinions don’t align with the vast majority of us [the community], I don’t think he should be part of it.

One opinion among many: Although Datto may get more ears and attention due to his reach, his video was still just one opinion among many. It does not automatically reflect the opinion of the entire Destiny 2 community.
Moreover, Datto also pointed out problems with these changes that have been completely overlooked amid the accusations. In the same video, he noted that there are also points that Bungie must definitely still address, in his opinion.
- Bungie had made confusing statements about the difficulty of lost sectors
- Furthermore, it is worrying that some top loot does not match the difficulty level
Bungie inquires about “decision”
Community manager follows up: On Twitter, Cozmo, a community manager for Destiny 2, responded to the screened tweet by Jacob Shxvel. He asked what the community’s final decision is?
The responses were certainly worth reading:
- Thus, KeKeHippo delivered the harsh judgment: “The community has decided to resign from Lightfall and Bungie. You all had a good run, but now it’s over. […]”
- Brendan makes the decision: “I think I have to wait for a video from Datto to form an opinion.”
- Etheon45 wants to use Scharmagie against Datto: “What if we use Schar magic to separate the elite Datto from the normal Datto into two people?”
- Darkdemon8910 judged: “I condemn [Datto] to 60 years of solo Grandmaster Duality dungeon.” However, he added “No, he’s right and I appreciate his opinion. He’s been around for years and tells it like it is. The game has been too easy for a while, and this will make people engage more with the things. There are concerns, but let it be.”
What is the judgment of the German Destiny community? Do you believe streamers actively influence Bungie’s decisions? Or are these just opinions? We welcome your comment here on MeinMMO.
