Larian Studios announced the extensive Patch 6 for Baldur’s Gate 3 for this week. The community collectively agreed: It’s definitely coming on Valentine’s Day. But Larian Studios had other plans and sent penguin memes as a response.
As Larian Studios announced in a post, all players of Baldur’s Gate 3 can look forward to Patch 6 and thus a huge update this week. By the way, the patch is now live.
What was not mentioned in the post, however, was the exact release date of Patch 6. It only stated: “Love is in the air in Faerûn.”
Many fans interpreted this as a sign that the update would be released on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024. However, they were wrong, as Larian Studios humorously made clear to them.
“Sweet Dreams”
User @dyingnome posted on X.com on February 8, 2024, with conviction: “Larian is releasing Patch 6 on Valentine’s Day with new companion kisses. Trust me on this, I know a thing or two about marketing.”
The next day, Larian Studios responded. In the form of a penguin meme showing a pouting penguin with the caption: “Well, now I won’t do it.”
When user SergeantDaynes humorously remarked that the patch would now come “out of spite” on February 13 or 15, there was another penguin in response. This time, one that stares at the viewer with a stern expression in close-up:
But that was not going to be Larian Studios’ last penguin. On February 14, 2024, Valentine’s Day came – but the patch did not.
Instead, Larian Studios gifted players with one last penguin on X.com. This time, one that lies in bed, laughing diabolically. The game studio wrote: “Sweet Dreams”.
How did the players react? Under the last penguin post, many users complained that the patch did not actually come out on Valentine’s Day. Some also begged that the game company would still be merciful enough to release the patch on Valentine’s Day, as they had stayed home to test the new kiss animations right away.
However, some also conceded that Larian Studios had clearly made it clear with the first penguin that the patch would not arrive on the expected date – and had actually not mentioned a specific date in the announcement at all.
