Since the release of the Xbox Series X, images and videos of consoles producing heavy smoke have circulated. Some players claim that the new next-gen console is overheating. However, these appear to be fakes, linked to the standby function of the Xbox. Microsoft asks users not to do this.
Update – November 12: Microsoft has responded to the trend and the videos. They ask that such actions not be replicated.
What are these images? On Twitter, YouTube, and other social channels, there are recurring posts and reports of smoking Xbox Series X consoles. The clips show thick smoke or vapor streaming from the openings at the top of the console.
These videos often have titles or descriptions like: “The Xbox Series X is overheating and smoking on launch day”. This can be seen in the embedded video from Para Seoul:
In the videos, it appears as if the smoke is coming from hardware that overheats during use. In some threads on Twitter, users even create and share various memes about the smoking Xbox.
However, these are mostly fakes. Previously, a tester measured the temperature of the console and determined: The Xbox Series X is cooler than the Xbox One and PS4.
While the smoke is just fake, the problems surrounding the Xbox Series X’s drive seem to be real.
Apparent smoke is just trend vapor
What’s behind this: As some users have noted, the “smoke” from the consoles is far too dense and heavy to be from a fire. Apparently, some players are just having fun with their e-cigarettes and vaporizers.
This tobacco alternative produces thick and heavy vapor through various “liquids”. When this is exhaled into the fans of the standby Xbox, it later rises from the console’s fans.
This creates the corresponding effect. The user @mraftw on Twitter explains in a short clip exactly how this works:
This is what Microsoft says about it: In a tweet from the official Xbox Twitter channel, the developers write: “We can’t believe we have to say this, but please do not blow vape smoke into your Xbox Series X.”
Apparently, the Xbox Series X is not meant to be whimsically filled with vapor.
Here’s how the release of the console really went: Since November 10, the Xbox Series X has officially launched. While some players received their console earlier, a few of them unfortunately received the wrong Xbox.
In general, the launch went relatively smoothly. There was an issue with the Xbox Live service, which was quickly resolved and did not affect all players.
The sentiment among players is also positive. In the first reviews of the Xbox Series X, users express their joy over the performance of the console and the significantly shorter load times for their favorite games.
Even the size, which was previously mocked, has surprised many players. The Xbox Series X is actually smaller than expected. MeinMMO editor Patrick Freese has one of the new consoles at home and has tested and reviewed it extensively. You can find his conclusion in our review of the Xbox Series X here on MeinMMO.
