On July 27, 2022, a new gameplay trailer for FIFA 23 was released. Many new features were introduced – but a curious bug is currently attracting players’ attention.
This is the bug: As the user “Raks-” pointed out and shared in the FIFA subreddit, a player in the FIFA 23 gameplay deep dive somehow stands out quite a bit.
While Bellingham in the foreground shows how “Technical Dribbling” is supposed to change the game, a player in T-Pose simply stands in the background. He holds his arms out to the side and stares blankly ahead.
You can see the exact spot in the trailer at 3:06 minutes:
This is how the community reacts to the bug in the FIFA 23 trailer
This is what players are saying: A post in the FIFA subreddit has over 2,900 upvotes and more than 129 comments, currently at the top. Under the title “EA isn’t really letting any player stand in T-Pose in the official gameplay trailer”, some are amused by the obvious mistake in the trailer.
- A player points out: “It’s even worse. In fact, there are two players (one Real, one BVB), who merge into each other” (via reddit). And indeed: if you look closely, you can identify kit elements from both teams.
- “What do you think, this is obviously an intended gameplay feature”, says another (via reddit).
- “Look, everyone thinks this is a “game bug”, but as a lifelong BVB fan, I tell you, this is just our defense in recent years”, jokes user cfbones (via reddit).
Additionally, user “HPfcp” (via reddit) noted another oddity. An animation of goalkeeper Alisson at 3:15 in the trailer is criticized for looking quite awkward when played slowly:
Besides these strange animations, there is also more serious criticism regarding the trailer and some gameplay elements.
The defensive behavior of the team is criticized right at the start of the trailer (via reddit). They are simply too far back, and it looks as if the penalty area is crowded with players while the space in front is ignored.
In the discussion post about the “Gameplay Pitch Notes” (via reddit), there are also concerns. While some elements are praised, such as
- the explosive new shots
- the new free kicks
- the pace overhaul
- and the ability to substitute 5 players.
On the other hand, it is noted that there are again big terms like “Technical Dribbling”, “Composed Ball Striking” and similar. But whether there are really significant changes that are noticeably felt in the game, some players doubt.
Other players, however, show a positive attitude towards the gameplay (via reddit):
“Some of what they are doing is really good. There are a lot of bugs from EA and they are patching it a lot, which makes it less and less like the launch version, but you have to consider the sheer number of people playing this game, it’s hard to serve them all”, says user “KingTocco”.
In the end, only one thing remains for now: to wait. In the coming weeks, more content and details about FIFA 23 are expected to be revealed, which will provide more insight into what the game has to offer.
