In World of Warcraft, with patch 9.2, there is a new relic set that players can grind. However, many players interpret the set as gear for catching up and see it as far too expensive. But they are mistaken, as this stuff is not meant for that. Read all about the controversial gear set on MeinMMO.
Which set is it? Since the new patch 9.2 of WoW, you can encounter not only hardcore bosses in WoW, but also grind a new level 246 relic set for “Sand-polished Relics”. However, it is quite expensive, requiring between 160 and 300 relics per item.
According to a reddit user, the entire set requires a total of 2,070 relics, which is a lot and takes up a lot of time.
What bothers the players? The reddit user boxonhead11 has a problem with this. It would require a gigantic effort to farm that many relics. Instead, wouldn’t it be enough to complete a mythic dungeon at keystone level 5? That would also yield useful gear of item level 246. That would be much less effort than grinding relics for hours.
And in any case, the stuff doesn’t even look good and is useless for transmog. It’s just a reskin of another set.

What does the community say? Other players also share the creator’s opinion in the thread. They say the gear is “absolutely useless”. Other users do not understand why anyone would want to grind something like that after just a week. There are much faster methods to get good gear.
Even as catch-up gear, meaning stuff that returning players get to quickly catch up in the endgame, it is unsuitable. The cipher gear would be much better suited for that.
The relic set is not what many players think: So is the relic set from patch 9.2 really for nothing? Far from it, as the set is not intended to be grind through mindlessly. It doesn’t work well, as relics only drop from certain activities.
Rather, according to our MeinMMO editorial demon Cortyn, it is a nice set for casual gamers who play World of Warcraft solo.
They regularly receive relics through their regular activities, and when they have enough of them, a nice set item pops out here and there.
To stand there for a week and grind over 2,000 relics is not what is intended here. Rather, it is a nice way for casuals to get a reasonably strong item. Because casuals, who mostly play solo, also don’t use mythic+5 dungeons, even if there is faster top gear available there.
The entire fuss about the supposed “uselessness” of the relic set is therefore based on a misunderstanding and a misinterpretation of the true use of the set.
