Players were delighted over a true windfall in GTA 5 Online when the event week started on May 14. But the joy was short-lived. Apparently, an error crept in.
What happened? Every Thursday, a new event week starts in GTA Online. Early in the day, players gather on Reddit to discuss what bonuses Rockstar Games has prepared for the upcoming 7 days of the event week.
It quickly became apparent that there would be triple cash rewards on bunker sales. Players were ecstatic. The top comment on reddit reads:
“BUNKER IS TRIPLE
I REPEAT
BUNKER IS TRIPLE”
Players were throwing upvotes left and right, excited for the upcoming event days. Others wrote:
- “We should delete this from the post before Rockstar realizes what they did”
- “Ladies & Gentlemen, this is the moment you’ve all been waiting for”
- “Bunker with triple cash is a first in history. Rockstar is changing!”
Players were already making detailed plans to utilize the bonus week particularly effectively.
With triple bunker rewards, players can quickly earn expensive items like supercars or real estate in GTA Online. This means over 3 million GTA dollars for selling a full bunker. Naturally, the joy was immense at first. But it was soon marred.
Rockstar reduces bunker bonus – likely an error
What happened next? Only a few hours after this bonus was announced, Rockstar Games intervened and reduced the bonuses. Instead of triple cash, there was now only double cash for bunker missions. Apparently, there was an error that caused the excessive bonus.
This was also confirmed by Rockstar insider TezFunz2 on Twitter. He writes: “Event update. It no longer pays out triple cash for bunker sales missions, but double cash instead.”
The big windfall that so many players were excited about didn’t last long. Reactions on Twitter reflect this.
- “Well, there goes my motivation to play this week”
- “Just when we thought we were getting great bonuses”
Disappointment over the reduced bonus is also evident on Reddit. “They noticed it. Now it’s only double.”
Just recently, Rockstar Games took harsh action, when players obtained millions with a money glitch.
What you need to consider: Despite the reduced bonus, bunker sales still bring in a lot of cash in GTA Online. It’s still worthwhile to fill up the stock and then sell the goods.
