Players of Genshin Impact are currently complaining about the monsters in the Spiral Abyss, the endgame dungeon of the game. But what exactly is the problem? MeinMMO explains what is going on.
How does the Spiral Abyss work? Floors 9 to 12 of the endgame dungeon “Spiral Abyss” or simply called “Abyss,” are reset on the 1st and 16th of each month. A floor consists of 3 different rooms, each divided into 2 different sections.
For each section, the player has to send two teams consisting of a maximum of four members into battle. These teams are assigned to section 1 or 2 and cannot be swapped while in a floor.
If a room is completed within a certain time, up to 3 stars can be earned. If you complete all 3 rooms in a floor, you can achieve a maximum score of 9 stars. These 9 stars for floors 9 to 12 are the goal for most endgame players.
Why are the 9 stars so important? The 9 stars per floor not only indicate the player’s troop strength and skill but also provide substantial rewards. A total of 600 Primogems, for pulling on banners, and 240,000 Mora await those who manage to achieve the maximum rating on all floors.
Time is thus a very important factor in this dungeon, however, the current enemies make it difficult for players to keep the required time.
“The Spiral Abyss is full of cowards”
Why are players complaining about the enemies? Reddit user RealMajorMarmot complains in a thread that the Spiral Abyss is only filled with cowards (via reddit). He criticizes that there are many monsters that jump away from him and stay very far apart.
Mirror Maidens and Electro Cicin Mages that hold you captive or teleport away – he is very annoyed by that. RealMajorMarmot further expresses that he does not understand why there are so many enemies that prefer to keep their distance instead of engaging in combat:
The Traveler and their friends should fear the Abyss, yet the monsters in the Spiral Abyss fear the adventurers?
He also notes that Genshin Impact must have implemented these measures because they fear that players who invest a lot of money into the game have too strong characters and would overcome the challenges in no time.
RealMajorMarmot is sad about this change and is ready to leave the Primogems behind if nothing changes. However, he is not the only one criticizing the enemies and receives a lot of support with 7,600 upvotes and 736 comments. Reddit user ConicalMug writes:
Yes, the number of enemies that are immune to crowd control and hop around the entire arena every few seconds is really starting to annoy me. (…) It feels like RNG [randomness]; whether the enemies just sit there and do nothing while I whittle down their health or if they teleport around like they are on crack (…)

The Abyss was fun, now it is making me want to stop [playing] the game.

Especially the Mirror Maidens, which came into the game with the new region Inazuma, receive a lot of criticism and frustrate the players:
The problem with the monsters from Inazuma is their mechanics, which are just nonsense instead of inviting you to learn their patterns and counter them effectively.
As an example: Compare Cicin Mages with Mirror Maidens. Cicin Mages always teleport behind you. Mirror Maidens seem to have no behavioral pattern and waste several seconds [with their random patterns].
The Mages can be trapped through crowd control, while the Maidens are immune to that unless you can dodge their almost direct massive area damage or incapacitate them as they spawn.
Realistically, you can cleverly counter the Mages if you know their AI or exploit their vulnerability to crowd control. Maidens? Just hit them hard enough in the face and hope you get good attack RNG.

Other mobs in the Abyss are also criticized. The Samurai, Hilichurl archers, and treasure hoarders are called “ridiculous” and relentlessly annoy the players. Their range and constant distance-keeping are heavily criticized.
In the thread, the current labyrinth event is cited as a positive example, and players wish for such challenges in the Abyss. More health points and enemies, instead of the annoying teleporting and holding by skills.
What do you think of the criticism from the reddit thread? Do you see it similarly or do you have completely different things that annoy you? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
