Bayern Munich has been eliminated from the Champions League. This also has an impact on FIFA 22 Ultimate Team for some fans.
What happened in real football: On Tuesday evening, April 12, Bayern Munich unexpectedly exited the Champions League.
After the German record champions had already fallen behind 0:1 against the Spanish FC Villarreal in the first leg, the 1:1 in the second leg was not enough to advance to the next round.
Although Robert Lewandowski had given Bayern the lead, which would have been enough for extra time, a second goal to turn things around just wouldn’t come – on the contrary. Samu Chukwueze completed a counter-attack just before the final whistle to make it 1:1 – leading to Bayern’s elimination from the competition.
This is also noticeable in FIFA 22: Two expensive, strong Bayern cards in Ultimate Team were directly tied to the result of the match.
Bayern’s RTTF cards in FIFA 22 crash
These are the cards: In Ultimate Team, there are so-called “Road-to-the-Final” cards. These cards get better the further the player’s team progresses in the real Champions League. Bayern has two: Corentin Tolisso and Lucas Hernández.
Both cards are strong, but a large part of their high price was due to the prospect of further upgrades. Many players had seen Bayern as the favorites against Villarreal – and must now face a significant drop in value.
The prices on the PlayStation transfer market are currently as follows (via futbin):
- Tolisso’s card peaked at about 280,000 coins and already crashed to about 210,000 coins after the first leg. Since the elimination, he is now only at 74,000 coins (as of April 13, 2022).
- Hernández once cost over 700,000 coins, then dropped to about 500,000. After last night’s defeat, he now stands at “only” 230,000 coins.
In both cases, while the prices might rise again in the coming days – after all, they are still good cards – the shock of the defeat has given the prices a significant blow.
Some players who grabbed the cards lament this:
- “And suddenly I have, just like that, a 90-rated fodder,” writes a user in the FIFA subreddit (via reddit). In FIFA, “fodder” refers to players who no longer fit into one’s own team but are only used as material for Squad Building Challenges.
- “Mine went directly into the Lahm SBC,” writes another user (via reddit). That was just unlocked in the FUT Captain event.
- “Literally the only damn RTTF card I had was Tolisso. And Bayern managed to lose. I didn’t even check the halftime score, so I couldn’t sell at the 1:0 hype,” writes user akira136 (via reddit).
At the same time, there is criticism that FC Villarreal did not receive any RTTF card from EA – despite the fact that the club has already eliminated Juventus Turin during the current Champions League season.
