In Diablo 4 you can collect weapons endlessly. But suddenly players notice: something seems off with the names.
Rare items, useful weapons, powerful equipment – there really are a plethora of items in Diablo 4. You find them in various versions and rarities, and once you have snagged a cool new item, your attention usually shifts first to the stats of the new weapon.
However, a few users on the Diablo 4 Reddit have taken a broader look and examined the weapons more closely – and noticed something unusual.
It seems that in some cases, the names in the game don’t match the weapons that are actually shown, as more users also notice in their inventory.

Why is the saber straight? Players wonder about names in Diablo 4
Here’s what’s going on with the swords: The user “Funslinger” shared in the Diablo 4 subreddit an overview of some swords that he encountered in the game. The curious thing: the names don’t match the weapons that are shown there.
So the user explains that the sword called “Zweihänder” in the picture is actually a claymore, while the claymore seems to be more of a bastard sword (one-and-a-half hander). Even with the weapons Flamberge, which should have a wavy blade, the Gothic Blade, and other weapons, he finds designs that do not match the names at all.

What do other players say? With the post, the user has prompted several players to check whether the item names are correct. In the comments, players express surprise that this hasn’t been noticed since the release of Diablo 4 – but many agree that something has to be off.
Some emphasize that the names do not just stop with the swords, but also affect axes and other items, for example. They believe that something must have gone awry with the naming.
Here are some of the voices:
- “Damn, you are actually 100 % right! Someone at Blizzard messed this up big time. Just yesterday I was wondering why the Flamberge Kingslayer and the Gothic Blade is called Flamberge, but didn’t investigate further. But now, seeing your post, you are 100 % right, it seems like every single name has been somehow swapped around” says user cela_ch (via reddit).
- “This applies not only to swords; I’ve noticed it with almost every weapon category. Another example is the ‘Doppelaxt’, which only has one axe blade, or the ‘Poleaxe’, which is just a spear without an axe head,” mentions user Swordbreaker925 (via reddit).
- “Lol, that’s how I felt with ‘short’ swords looking like they should be at least longswords (or even ‘one-and-a-half’ handed swords, considering how much space there is on the grip when holding it),” mentions user stofiski-san (via reddit).
- “Yes, some of the regular swords are also mislabeled. They have a curved sword called ‘War Sword’, which is okay, but right next to it in the list is a ‘Saber’ and the model is a broken, straight sword/longsword. It definitely looks like some have been mislabeled. I also find it funny that they call the simple longsword a ‘short sword'” agrees user simplemalk (via reddit).
Here there seem to be some general difficulties. It’s a curious story, but as long as the stats are at least correct, everything is probably not so bad. You can find all unique items in Diablo 4 here.
Why the names sometimes don’t line up, there is currently no information available. Some players joke that probably someone slipped in the corresponding Excel row – but an official statement on what the problem is is still missing.
