For months, Guardians have been waiting for the Worm Exorcism in Destiny 2. On February 16, it finally happened, and players could finally select the last mission in the Dreaming City. However, many had their excitement for a cutscene ruined when a bug skipped everything.
What ruined everything? The exorcism of the Witch Queen was initiated after a long wait. Many Guardians had been waiting for this event for months, but after the secret bridge to the event was completed, Mara and her Corsairs could finally begin.
But the anticipation for the event ended for many with a black screen. Impatient Guardians assigned to your fireteam simply skipped the last and most important cutscene of the season, causing a lot of frustration.
Bungie has since commented more on the issues on Reddit. In a recent reddit post by Community Manager dmg04, it was reported that Bungie has already identified some causes of the bug, but will currently not release a hotfix for it. The reason is that they are in the final phase before Witch Queen and providing a hotfix could cause some “hitches.”
To help affected players complete the mission, the first step in the quest will now be automatically completed. This should allow players to access subsequent story dialogues without issues.
However, to complete the Triumph, the activity must still be finished. This completion should be triggered when players remain in the mission until the cutscene begins. The Community Manager requests that players do not manually end the mission after defeating the boss.
A bug that could have been prevented
In previous seasons, Bungie had already shown countless cutscenes for Guardians in other activities. However, these could not be skipped by anyone in the fireteam. But in the last mission, which should herald the next major DLC, it was possible again, and this “bug” ruined the experience for many. Many players were understandably upset about this.
Since Bungie had a lot of time to plan the exorcism and check for issues, it is not understood how this could happen.
What happened in the mission? The mission was a modified version of the Astral Alignment. You had to prepare a teleport. Then slip through a portal and protect three Corsairs from Mara Sov together with the 14th Holy.
Xivu Arath, the sister of the Witch Queen, sent many strong and well-known troops that also had to be fought in the Astral Alignment. Towards the end, her new champion appeared, who was forced to his knees after a few hard shots.
Once all the troops were defeated, the Awoken Queen continued with the “operation” and cut out the worm. Then the cutscene was initiated. After bright light effects, only the long-missed Osiris was left on a pile of crystal shards, but the Witch Queen disappeared.
What do the fans say? Players on Reddit expressed their frustration in the comments. They criticized the poor loot, but also the skipped cutscene (via. reddit). As a result, the Guardians were forced to replay the mission.
However, things like the number of Corsairs in the event were also criticized. In previous missions, Guardians had to free seven of the Awoken, but only three were involved in the ritual. The Guardian questions “Dakotahray” what the point was in saving so many.
In the end, the mission was a good conclusion for the longest season in Destiny 2 so far. Despite the bug, the mission was well received by many, and it significantly boosted the mood for Witch Queen.
What did you think of the ending of the Season of the Lost? Did you think the mission was well done, or did you also look at the pipes and miss the cutscene? Let us know!
