Fortnite: Battle Royale recently had a highly controversial update. In it, rockets were significantly strengthened, and buildings were weakened. This caused an uproar that prompted Epic to reconsider.
What happened with the rockets? With the recent update 6.21, the Fortnite world was turned upside down. The reason was that explosions from rockets and grenades now penetrated walls. Previously, even behind the flimsiest wooden wall, one felt safe; after the update, one received damage even while taking cover. Cover became practically useless.
Casuals are supposed to have it easier: Epic defended its actions by stating that they wanted to give casual players more chances against professionals. Many players do not have a sufficient grasp of building, while hardcore gamers can erect large fortresses in no time. According to Epic, that would be unfair.
“Hands off building!”: The building fans, on the other hand, saw the update as an outrageous intervention in one of the game’s most important unique features. Without building, Fortnite is just a simple, colorful shooter.
Only through building does a strong strategic component come into play. Furthermore, Epic already has plenty of counters against structures with the new items Quad-Rammer, Quad-Launcher, and the Grappler massive counters against buildings.
Epic bows to community criticism
The builders have likely won: However, Epic stated in the update announcement that they wanted to closely monitor how the change was received. They wish to draw further conclusions thereafter.
This has seemingly happened now, and Epic seems to have concluded that the new explosion rules were indeed not a good idea.
Hotfix restores previous state: Therefore, a hotfix has now reversed the explosion change. You can now once again protect yourself from bombs and rockets behind rickety wooden shacks.
What is your opinion on the update and the change? Did you find the new rule great, or are you glad that Epic listened to the community and is backtracking?
