At the moment, there is a bug in Diablo 4 that can destroy your hard-farmed loot with a quest item. Blizzard is already working on a solution, in the meantime, players are advised to be cautious about what they pick up from the ground.
What kind of item is it?
- The remains of villagers (“Villager Remains”) are part of a side quest in Kyovashad.
- Right now, players find the items in piles on the ground in the city, often at the entrance or directly at the city portal.
- The community warns: If you notice the item, definitely leave it alone.
That’s why you shouldn’t pick up the item: On Reddit and in the official forum, there are dozens of reports from players who lost their items after picking up the remains. This concerns not just what you have in your inventory, but also equipped gear.
Some players reported that they lost items like their Starless Sky ring or other mythical items – those that you can’t easily farm again.
The exact cause of the error or what leads to the loss of items is currently unclear. The community suspects that the remains are linked to a duping glitch and are being exploited by scammers to illicitly duplicate valuable items. If you have accidentally picked up the remains, you can get rid of them in various ways:
- Leave Kyovashad on foot – this seems to be the safest way
- Teleport to another point on the map – however, there have already been reports that items may go missing if you wait too long
- Absolutely do not just log out, as this reportedly causes the most problems
The problem is reminiscent of a new scam that is currently circulating in Diablo 4. Here, purchased items can simply disappear into thin air.
Blizzard is aware of the issue and is already working on a solution
On X, Diablo 4’s community manager, Adam Fletcher, has already spoken up. He says: The problem is known, and they are already working on a solution. We do not yet know when this is planned, but it will likely be included as a hotfix as soon as possible.
In the same post, Fletcher promises that “early next week”, which means sometime this week, a patch will be applied for more leather and ore. This has been planned for a while and is expected to be rolled out now.
Leather and ore remain a bottleneck for players looking to upgrade their gear to get the most out of their characters. Consequently, they are frustrated with the grind required for such simple materials and are now happy about the buff.
So far, we do not know how players who lost items due to the bug will be compensated. Some are asking for a rollback, that is, returning characters to a state prior to the bug. If you are affected, you can only wait for now, or you can try to buy your items from a vendor: You can simply get the rarest items in Diablo 4 from a vendor
