In Destiny 2 Guardians have found a way into a hidden forest after 4 years. Here Bungie is supposed to test destructive features for the upcoming expansion Witch Queen.
In the action MMO Destiny 2, players have sneaked into a secret forest (or rather glitch). The hidden area seems to be used by the developer Bungie itself for testing. The clever Guardians have encountered a feature that could come straight out of Battlefield.
MeinMMO takes a closer look at the hidden zone, as Guardians have wanted to enter the area for 4 years. Some speculate that we might be able to see the first new feature of the upcoming DLC Witch Queen in the forest.
This has been found:
- Destructible environment: In the hidden area, trees and fallen trunks can be damaged by gunfire or abilities. The wood then shatters and even collapses, and the pieces fall to the ground.
- There are also statues in the area depicting a Titan holding an auto rifle like Suros Regime. These monolithic objects likely serve as a reference point for the size of Guardians. Some statues are also half buried in the ground.
- Otherwise, the forest is very dark, foggy, and gravity doesn’t seem to work properly – for example, stones are floating. Kabal corpses can also be found.
Check out the area in this short clip from JB3:
For 4 years Guardians have been trying to break into the secret forest
This is how tricky a visit is: The newly discovered area isn’t really new. The “Quarantine Sector 236,” as the in-game description of the zone in the EDZ states, was part of a story mission at the release of Destiny 2. However, the Guardians have not been able to set foot in the area since, which Bungie is apparently now using for testing purposes (or did use – now that Guardians have found a way into the forest).
On Raidsecrets (via reddit) we read that the search for a way into the sector has been going on for 4 years. Through a complicated combination of sword flying, well-timed jumps with the Titan exotic Unstoppable Lion and the Colossus super, it was possible to enter the forest visible in the distance (via YouTube).
From the hidden forest, the Guardians have glitched directly into the next secret area. Here we see a whole galaxy, cosmic star constructions, and a staircase in the universe (via YouTube). However, what this is all about is completely unclear. In contrast, some players already have theories about what the destructible forest physics are about.
What does this have to do with Witch Queen?
The next major expansion for Destiny 2 is called Witch Queen and is coming in early 2022. There you will hunt the supremely powerful witch Savathûn. Not much more is officially known about the next chapter yet. Bungie gave the Guardians a teaser image from a cinematic on June 4 as a teaser:
In it, we see a Guardian standing in armor with symbols of the Nine in a forest. We already know the concept art for the armor. The fact that the Guardian stands in a dense forest now fuels the speculation in combination with the recently found Sector 236.
Is a dynamic environment coming after dynamic weather? The Witch Queen is supposed to take place in the area of Old Chicago – a swampy forest landscape. Bungie is apparently actively testing the destructible forest environment in the eyes of some fans and will bring the feature in the DLC. The last expansion Beyond Light first introduced dynamic weather that can completely obscure players’ vision with snowstorms on the ice moon Europa.
In Witch Queen, destructible underbrush may then be on the agenda. In the minds of some Guardians, they are already blasting through the jungle with their MG as a machete substitute. However, it is purely speculation whether the destructible environment will be limited to wood or if Destiny 2 is really borrowing the destruction from Battlefield and extending it to other objects. It is essentially entirely unclear whether the feature will actually come to the game.
What do you think of the hidden forest? Has Bungie tested future features here or are the found items all insignificant? Would you be happy if you could interact more with your surroundings – in the style of Battlefield? Let us know in the comments.
By the way: For the new Battlefield, which is supposed to be revealed in a few days, we from MeinMMO are also keeping an eye on it for you: We now know when the new Battlefield will be shown
