In the open world of Diablo 4, you encounter other players with whom you can team up. However, this is often not as easy as it sounds, resulting in rather bizarre conversations rather than productive ones.
Every player has certainly experienced this in Diablo 4. You are walking through a city, planning your next activity, and suddenly you hear a “Greetings!” from somewhere. You respond with a “Hello!” and the reply follows, “Impressive!” A conversation unfolds. At least, if you can call it that, because it mostly seems rather awkward and bizarre.
This lack of communication options in Diablo 4 has been discussed on Reddit. Some players feel lonely despite the Shared World, while others wish for more emotes that can be used for social interaction. This would likely make brief conversations seem less bizarre.

Bizarre Emote Conversations
What are these bizarre conversations? In the comments of a post on Reddit, a similar “conversation” unfolds as one would know from Diablo 4. It starts with “Look”, followed by another “Look”. Then comes a “Greetings”, “Impressive”, and “There are so many ways to kill you” followed by a “Thank you”. (via Reddit)
MeinMMO author Nicole Wakulczyk has experienced similar things. No matter where you are in the game with other players, you’ll encounter bizarre “conversations” everywhere. While waiting for the world boss, it is almost daily business to spam emotes like “Hello!”, “Look!”, “Yes” or “No” to make contact with other players. The chat is mostly decoration and, in her experience, is rarely used.
She remembers one of the few chat messages where a player wrote: “I am looking for a clan, can anyone help?” He received no replies in the local chat.
“I don’t even know how to invite people to a group”
What is the problem? In the Diablo 4 subreddit, u/storage_god writes on July 2: “I am level 85 and have not played with a single player so far, although I would like to. No one writes in the chat. There is no group search. No clan search. How do you find people to play with?” (via Reddit) and receives 3,900 upvotes and 1,800 replies.
Silver_gobo adds: “I don’t even know how to invite people that I see randomly to a group.”
In the post by u/Thac0, users point out that Diablo 4 is actually a single-player game. Aesir81 adds: “They made a single-player MMO where you can see everyone, but you cannot communicate or play together with them.” (via Reddit).
In summary, some players desire more emotes that could be used for interaction as well as a simplified way of teaming up with others or finding a suitable clan.
The Shared World is probably the topic that generates the most discussions and completely divided opinions regarding Diablo 4. While many players really like it, others find it disruptive.
