When the announcement of Season 7 and the new content for Diablo 4 was made, part of the community was skeptical. Now many players admit they were wrong and find the new features surprisingly good.
That was the concern: When Blizzard announced the new content for Season 7 in Diablo 4, there were worries in the community that the new witch powers would resemble the vampire powers from Season 2 too much. Many players feared that the season would just be a “recycled” version of the old season, with little genuinely new content. Instead of vampires, witches would be coming into play, a user remarked on Reddit.
On January 21, Season 7 started, bringing the announced content to the ARPG. A look into the subreddit for Diablo 4 shows that the new content is now being received much better by many players than initially expected.
Players praise the new zones and the cool witch powers
How are the new contents received? Apparently much better than expected. In a post on Reddit, a user explains that he initially wanted to avoid Season 7 after seeing it on the PTR. He felt it was a “rehash of Season 1 and 2.” But after giving the season a chance, he now says: “Even though the season is still similar to Season 2, it has its own atmosphere and systems – and some great ones at that.”
Other users agree and also highlight aspects they enjoy about Season 7. Especially the new head-hunting zones are well-received, as they are excellent for leveling and farming. Many players even wish that these zones remain permanently in Diablo 4.
The new witch powers and the circle are also well-received by the community. Techno_Gerbil writes: “Just for the build variety, I hope the witch powers are incorporated into the game and not just a seasonal mechanic. The design of the circle is also great, and I love the whole lore surrounding the Whispering Tree. It would be a shame if this disappears in a few months.”
In another Reddit post, a user notes that the developers simply did not present the new content well during the last “Campfire Chat” livestream. He states: “[The season] is way more fun than it came across in the stream.” Bakerstreet74 also expressed disappointment after the livestream. However, after playing a few hours, he was pleasantly surprised and had a blast. “A nice surprise,” he sums up.
A crucial feature is missing for the community: the loot filter
What are players criticizing? After nearly two days in Season 7, the community expresses criticism that there is still no loot filter. Blizzard adjusted the loot in previous seasons to ensure that fewer, but higher quality items drop. However, many players currently feel that the loot has become more abundant and cluttered again.
On Reddit, a user writes that there is “simply too much loot.” He spends more time managing his inventory than leveling up. And Spendinit adds that it’s fine – one just needs a loot filter. Back in late June 2023, shortly after the release of Diablo 4, the loot filter was the feature that experts were demanding. So far, Blizzard seems to still have no plans in this regard.
In another Reddit post, a user jokingly explains what for him is the worst thing about the latest update, namely Season 7: the missing campfire at the character selection. This detail is particularly missed by long-time fans of the series since it was removed from the game with the expansion Vessel of Hatred.
