With XDefiant, Ubisoft has released a new arena shooter that is particularly interesting for fans of Call of Duty. However, some players believe after their first matches that the shooter is too sweaty. Other players wanted it exactly that way. We show what it is all about.
What is the criticism from players? XDefiant has been playable for a few days, and shortly after the launch of the shooter, it can be read on Reddit that the game is too sweaty for normal players. The current gaming experience is characterized by playing against “CoD sweaters” (via Reddit).
The criticism is based on the fact that XDefiant does not have SBMM, i.e., skill-based matchmaking. SBMM ensures that players of approximately the same skill level come into a common lobby. You should play with and against players who are as good as you.
The lack of SBMM means that anyone can play against anyone. A player with a lower skill level can encounter a player who has been playing games like CoD and XDefiant at the highest level for years.
Why is this controversial? SBMM is a much-discussed topic in the shooter community. Good players criticize that they do not always want to play at their highest level. It is a game, and they also want to have fun. However, worse players do not want to play against significantly better players and be hopelessly outmatched.
In Call of Duty and other comparable games, worse players are protected from encountering good players. They play exclusively at their level. High losses against significantly better players and the associated negative gaming experience are avoided by the system.
In XDefiant, worse players are now confronted with the frustration that arises when players have to suffer heavy losses. Good players, on the other hand, are happy not to have to play only against the best of the best and can also relax.
Some like that there is no SBMM in XDefiant, while others find it rather bad.
How will XDefiant solve the problem? With a ranked mode. Currently, only the casual mode is playable in XDefiant, where anyone can play against anyone, and there is no SBMM.
However, XDefiant will have a ranked mode where matchmaking will take into account the rank and thus the skill of the respective player.
If you want to play exclusively against players at your level in the future, you will have to play ranked. If you want to play against all skill levels, then casual is your mode. You have the free choice.
