Blizzard changes how the Battle Pass works in Diablo 4 with the upcoming Season 8. In particular, unwanted rewards should be manageable for players. However, some are now calculating and saying: overall, there is simply less value. Is that true?
This is what changes with the Battle Pass:
- Blizzard introduces the “Reliquary” system in Diablo 4. With this, you can choose your rewards in the Battle Pass and only earn what you really want.
- Through various reliquaries, you have the opportunity to unlock different areas – or directly everything together with the Battle Pass as before. Collaborations like the one with Berserk are also expected to come as a reliquary.
- The system comes as part of the changes from Season 8 and will remain permanently in the game. Season 8 starts on April 29, 2025.
So what is the problem with it? In the official blog, Blizzard has already shown the reliquaries and some of the rewards. There, the prices are also visible. If you buy the reliquaries individually, you pay 500 platinum (roughly 5 euros) more than for the Battle Pass in total, which includes all reliquaries.
A player has now made a comparison to the old Battle Pass based on the shown screenshots (via Reddit). He finds significantly fewer cosmetics for the same price:

However, what stands out is that the platinum rewards are almost completely missing. In the old Battle Pass, one could earn back 666 platinum, in the new one only 200 – which are included in the free path. In theory, every 5th Battle Pass is therefore completely free.
“Great for free players, terrible for premium users”
The data is based solely on the shown screenshots and it is not yet clear whether all rewards are really shown in their final form, or if something will change. In its current form, the new Battle Pass is simply as expensive for less content.
MeinMMO has submitted an inquiry to Blizzard regarding the Battle Pass. A response is still pending.
In the comments on the Reddit post, players accuse Blizzard of taking advantage of premium customers. Those who pay get less out of it – but at least the players who play for free now have better rewards. And being able to choose what one wants is at least useful, even if it is no consolation.
Many users on Reddit refuse to invest again after 7 seasons in which they bought the Battle Pass. They do not like the direction and the paid cosmetics are not good enough to warrant payment. The free path is sufficient.
At the moment, Diablo 4 is quite caught in the crossfire. With the new season and upcoming changes, Blizzard is trying many new things that are often not well received by veterans and habitual gamers. Diablo is often critically discussed, but currently more than ever: Diablo 4 actually brings exactly what fans demand, yet they still complain: ‘You always find something’
