In Destiny 2, the Dawn: Fire Trial was replaced in the middle of the week. Players farmed this usually tough activity significantly easier than expected.
This activity was replaced: In Destiny 2, players can attempt tougher versions of the strikes in the Dawns. It’s time to run a familiar strike with additional modifiers. For those who want it extra hard, they even choose the Dawn: Fire Trial.
Every week, a new strike is crowned as the fire trial, and the Guardians can try their luck there until the next reset. However, on the night of July 9, the current strike was replaced – MeinMMO explains what is behind this intervention.
Why did Bungie intervene? Players have farmed the strike “The Blighted Core” back and forth in the last two days. Those who brave the highest difficulties of the fire trial are rewarded with rare prizes. Exotics and coveted masterwork materials await.
The reason for the farming readiness was a bug: instead of facing enemies at the Grandmaster difficulty level with planned 1080 power, the opponents only had a power level of 750 – which is easily surpassed even by new players in Destiny 2.
Yet, even though the opponents were not nearly as powerful as intended, this had no impact on the rewards. They were still granted as intended for the 1080 version of the fire trial. Hence, calls to farm the fire trial this week skyrocketed.
The swap is mourned, but also celebrated.
This is what the players say: Interestingly, players are divided over the change. Given the significantly easier rewards, many Guardians miss the “easier” strike.
Due to sunsetting, the controversial weapon retirement, many players must soon completely upgrade their gear, consuming large amounts of usually rare masterwork materials.
However, some Guardians are also happy about the strike swap (via reddit). Because “The Blighted Core” is not exactly popular as a strike.
- the strike is quite long
- Many Taken appear as enemies, duplicating or teleporting back and forth
- There are many blockers and snipers that prolong battles
- In this strike, there are many “pushers” that throw players into abysses.
The probably worst strike in the game was replaced by the probably best strike in the game.

In contrast, the new fire trial (The Pyramidion) is quite short and one of the oldest and most familiar strikes in the game.
What do you think about the swap? Would you have liked to farm the Dawn: Fire Trial under eased conditions all week? You still have time until autumn to celebrate the winding down Destiny year: Triumph Moments 2020 finally presented – Here are all the rewards.
