With a trick, some players are farming crazy amounts of gold shortly before the release of WoW Dragonflight without having to rely on the auction house. The player who discovered the trick says there is hardly a better method right now. However, fans are skeptical, thinking it won’t stay that way – and penalties could rain down.
How do people get so much money? Since Phase 2 of the pre-patch for Dragonflight, there has been a change in the Chromie Time. With the mechanic, you can visit old expansions and level in them.
With the change, scaling goes up to level 60. With a trick, opponents can be kept at level 60, and in certain areas, enemies spawn so quickly that farming here is easier than in any area in Shadowlands.
YouTuber Studen Albatroz, who mainly publishes gold guides, aims to farm over 20,000 gold per hour by combining this change and collaboration within groups.
The amount is “raw gold,” as players call it, meaning pure gold obtained through looting and selling to vendors. Special items that yield high amounts in the auction house are not even accounted for in this.
Is this allowed? Earning gold has become more difficult since the pre-patch, because one of the most popular methods has been massively nerfed. There was no penalty for using it. However, the new method is also associated with certain conditions, which makes it sound more like an exploit.
On reddit and YouTube, some players comment that they would rather not risk getting banned for such a trick:
Thanks for sharing. 20,000 raw gold is a dream for many right now, but I wouldn’t risk my earnings from the release of Dragonflight for that.
Studen Albatroz himself says he fears no penalties. The Chromie Time is as it currently is intended and the scaling is as well. Otherwise, it would be absolutely impossible for characters to catch up. This also applies in his opinion to the gold from sold items.
A week before release, Blizzard presents the features of Dragonflight with a gameplay trailer:
Weapons for Level 61 – Not usable yet
Some players have already noticed that they are receiving certain items that require level 61 or even 70. However, these are not usable yet, as the current maximum level is still 60. Only with the release of Dragonflight on November 29 will the cap be raised to 70.
At least epic weapons found in Chromie Time at level 60 already require level 61. Players are wondering if they can stockpile these now to then get strong materials from disenchanting with Dragonflight.
No one has been able to confirm yet if that works. However, it probably won’t work, so don’t rely too much on having supposed treasures in your inventory. But there is at least a small chance, which is why the corresponding weapons are currently in demand.
A small gold cushion is definitely advantageous for the release of Dragonflight. However, if you don’t want to use supposed exploits, we have tips for your preparation:
