In Apex Legends are the best players in the top league in ranked play. However, according to observations by some players, some of the seemingly best players have gained their rank through unfair methods.
Who is it about? The two players Xynoa and Skittles are currently leading the rankings in Apex Legends and are therefore also found in the prestigious rank “Apex Predator”. Only 500 players can occupy this position and they receive coveted awards to show off their skills.
Top players conspire in ranked mode
What happened? However, it seems that at least these two players have not always acted fairly. Because a video from May 12th by reddit user kaleinrm shows that the two top stars teamed up with another trio to farm other players and thus had an unfair advantage.
What is the problem with teaming? Such “teaming”, meaning the collaboration of several squads, is a big no-go in battle royale games and is considered cheating. It is very difficult for a fairly playing trio to compete against 6 players who are working together.
With such an advantage, it is certainly much easier to assert oneself in the fiercely contested top tier of apex predators and to stay at the top. The top rank is limited to only 500 players, and this way cheaters permanently exclude other aspiring players from the top grouping.
Even more teamers caught at the top ranks
This also happened: Just a few hours after the video by kaleinrm, another video appeared. Here, too, 6 top players were active in the apex predator rank and took down an unsuspecting squad.
Team conspirator threatens with DDoS attack: When reddit user MittnXBL announced he would report the teamers to the developers, he was even threatened by one of the cheaters. The player Need a Soda, who was in 5th place in the rankings during the last season, allegedly threatened, according to MittnXBL, to kill his computer with a DDoS attack if he reported him.
Reddit users who commented on the thread seemed to know Need a Soda well and commented multiple times, “This doesn’t surprise me at all, the guy has cheated his way to the top ranks multiple times!”
What happened next? The player was not intimidated and reported the cheaters anyway. The announced hacker attack apparently did not happen. However, nothing else happened either. The developers have not visibly reacted yet.
However, the last ranked season ended with the release of season 5 and the new ranking spots are currently being contested again. Furthermore, senior designer Chin Xiang Chong from Respawn Entertainment recently made a statement via Twitter. He promised that they would address the issue as soon as possible and take appropriate action after reviewing the situation.
I know this is probably not the answer you're looking for RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW but:

Yes, we see the articles and the claims and will take appropriate action after doing appropriate investigations.
But regardless of cheaters and team conspirators, season 5 in Apex Legends offers a lot of new content. Especially the new PvE missions featuring the newly added thief Loba bring fresh air to the battle royale shooter from Respawn Entertainment.
