The beta launch of Fallout 76 on PS4 and PC went thoroughly wrong for many fans. The culprit is a bug affecting the pre-load that can delete the entire beta. Frustration is accordingly high among some players.
For some players, the launch of Fallout 76 on PC and PS4 went quite awry. A bug affecting the preload caused many fans to miss the first period.
What kind of bug is it? This error could cause the beta download to be completely deleted. Affected players couldn’t even start, as they had to re-download the beta. Many were quite desperate because of this.

50GB download? All gone
This is what happened: After a countdown expired in the Bethesda launcher, some players were able to start the game, but there were several error messages.
Especially PC players seem to be affected by the problem. Bethesda specifically addressed a tweet that evening to those players, advising them not to press any buttons in the Bethesda launcher.
If someone accidentally pressed a button, it often resulted in the beta being deleted and needing to be downloaded again. About 50GB were therefore gone and had to be downloaded anew.
The way to avoid the bug looked like this:
- If you pressed a button, you should let the download continue
- If you didn’t press a button, you should continue not to press any buttons
Apparently, players who didn’t even touch the Bethesda launcher are also affected. So reports at least Kotaku.
Is there any compensation? To make up for it, Bethesda is extending the next beta phase by several hours. On November 1st, you can test the beta from 7 PM to 4 AM.
It is therefore unclear who all is affected by the bug and how exactly it occurred. Bethesda had announced in an open letter that there could be larger bugs and errors, but this offers little comfort to players.

Beta launch for all platforms causes frustration among fans
This is how the community reacts: In the subreddit for Fallout 76, players vent their anger. There, too, players report that they are affected by the bug without having touched the Bethesda launcher. They also report overloaded servers as some fans had to re-download the beta at the same time.
The extension of the next phase at least appeases some players. However, many remain skeptical and want to wait and see if there will be problems again.
Besides the predominantly angry users, there are still some who view the whole situation pragmatically. Better to have these bugs now than to experience them during the release.
What do you think about it? Were you affected by the bug?
