In Destiny 2, the new season is starting soon, and a vendor refresh is not in sight. Will only the Eververse receive new items this time again?
This is a vendor reset in Destiny: A vendor refresh or reset refers to the updating of the goods and items from vendors (eng. Vendor) in the game. In Destiny, NPCs (non-playable characters) like Zavala or the Wanderer are considered such vendors.
They offer items in exchange for materials or tokens. As a reward for rank increases, weapons and armor are available.
Most vendors offer thematic loot, meaning equipment that fits their activity.
Previous vendor resets brought new weapons and armor to Destiny and Destiny 2. Partly, the inventory was even updated weekly with new rolls.
The vendors have become irrelevant
When was the last vendor refresh? The inventory of the vendors and NPCs in Destiny has not been updated for a long time. The last refresh dates back well over a year with Forsaken. Some vendors still offer gear from two years ago.
Players hoped for a new vendor inventory at the launch of Shadowkeep and the start of the third “Destiny 2” year. But many players still find the vendors uninteresting, if not completely irrelevant.
This is what the community says: The desire for new relevance of the NPCs in the Tower and on the individual planets is a constant topic in the Destiny community. Before the start of each new season, this topic comes up again.
Players hoard their vendor tokens and do not know what to do with them. For many guardians, the tokens clog their inventory or vault, because why would one need the 936th roll of ‘better devils’?
Only Destiny newcomers who have stepped into Destiny 2 for the first time with New Light might find use in the current vendors. All others are expressing opinions like a vendor refresh is needed.
Shadowkeep is a great expansion but vendor loot is in dire need of a refresh

The NPCs on the individual planets like Devrim or the AI Failsafe do not even possess weapons with ‘random rolls’. The beloved weapons from the first year of Destiny 2 could at least gain some relevance.
At least the Year 1 location vendors need random rolls. At least.

However, one vendor always has an updated inventory. And that is to the chagrin of some guardians. The NPC Tess Everis can shine every season with a packed assortment of items.
What are you complaining about? Vendor loot got a refresh, just look at Tess.

Tess lets the coins roll
This is how the Eververse is doing: Tess’s Eververse is the real money shop for Destiny 2. There, players can purchase mainly cosmetic items like emotes or ornaments and skins. Unlike other vendors, the Eververse is constantly being expanded with new content:
To enter the real money shop, you no longer need to travel to the Tower. The Eververse is conveniently accessible through the menu at any time. Whether you are in orbit or currently visiting one of the planets, silver can be invested in cosmetic items. With the other vendors, it is not even possible to take a bounty from a distance.
Despite the many criticisms of the Eververse, there is also positive news about the real money shop. The revenues from Tess finance in-game content for all players. The showcase missions ‘Hour Zero‘ and the hunt for the Whisper of the Wyrm are said to have been fully made possible through money from the Eververse.
As Bungie and Activision parted ways some time ago and the studio is now on its own, it is understandable that Destiny needs to somehow (re)finance itself. But is the chosen way the right one?
This is what Bungie says about the lack of vendor refresh: The Destiny developer is currently prioritizing the development of new content rather than replenishing the dusty vendor inventories. Official statements from the Destiny developer regarding the vendor refresh have not been made since before the launch of Shadowkeep.
Victoria Dollbaum, Design Director at Bungie, emphasized that they are aware of the topic and the desire for a new vendor inventory. But she pointed out that it is more important to focus on new activities and seasonal content.
Basically, is it more important that the vendors get refreshes, or is it more important that you have a seasonal activity that’s tied into your narrative for the season? We see that players are asking for it, but we also have a huge list of things that we’re working on, and it may not fall into that list.

Many YouTubers are currently addressing the topic. As before each new season, expectations and wishes for new content are high. Here’s what Atzecross Gaming has to contribute to the discussion:
What do you think – is the new gear from Shadowkeep enough for you, or do you wish for more relevance for the dusty vendors again? Is it okay that the Eververse always has new content – after all, it finances parts of Destiny 2.
