The first major paid live event “A Colossal Discovery” from Pokémon GO is over, but the reviews haven’t been very good. What are the complaints?
This was the live event: This Saturday, the event “A Colossal Discovery” around Regigigas took place in Pokémon GO. If you paid €8.99, you got access to the event – those who didn’t want to pay had to stay outside.
Already beforehand, many of you players said they would stay away. Even some players who attended are not entirely convinced by the concept.
“Was a Panzaeron research day behind a paywall”
What do the reviews say? On reddit, one opinion has gained significant support. There, the trainer “TheCrumpler” said about the event: “A Colossal Discovery was a Panzaeron research day behind a paywall.”
So the trainer explains that it felt exactly like limited research, like the events where players had to solve many field research tasks, like with Perlu or Barschwa.
At the end, the trainer asked if this was the new format for limited researches.
Almost 2500 agreed. Reddit users wrote hundreds of comments and discussed the topic. Many shared the same opinion: They also focused on Panzaeron during their live event. The Regis were more of a sideshow and important for completing the quests.
However, there are also voices against it. Players report that they focused more on Regi Raids and did not engage much with the field researches. They wanted to have the Regi Trio as Shiny.
Is this criticism justified? It must definitely be noted that the field researches around Panzaeron were only available if one had purchased the event ticket.
In about 90% of the quests, Panzaeron was the reward.
Those who didn’t have a ticket had no chance of getting Panzaeron in any quest and had to hope for spawns in the wild, which were quite rare.
Those who wanted to catch a Shiny Panzaeron had to complete several quests. This was indeed comparable to limited researches, where one also had to solve many quests.
Nevertheless, it must be reiterated that the €8.99 did not bring this version of a “limited research”.
Moreover, buyers received 10 Raid Passes, which were quickly used up. Niantic increased the raids so that buyers could raid a lot.
Thus, not only the special quests were the focus of the live event, but also the many raids.
