Genshin Impact is soon celebrating its 1st anniversary and the developers have now presented the rewards. However, gamers are far from thrilled and feel cheated. Because the rewards seem more like an incentive than a true reward. MeinMMO summarizes the players’ reactions.
Whenever a game celebrates an anniversary, the loyal player base hopes that it will be worthwhile for gamers who have been playing the game for a long time. Free in-game currency, skins, or other cool rewards are often mentioned.
Genshin Impact is also celebrating its 1st anniversary at the end of the year and has now presented the rewards for the anniversary event:
- All players will receive a total of 10 free wishes as a login bonus.
- Additionally, there are about 2,000 Primogems and other rewards such as weapon materials, Mora, and experience books for the characters.
- Furthermore, the developer is renewing the recharge bonus for real money purchases in the shop.
However, many players are not excited about these rewards and express their frustration on reddit.
Players are disappointed by the “rewards”
On reddit, there is now a highly discussed post about the anniversary event (via reddit.com). The post has received more than 9,000 upvotes and over 1,500 comments. There is a lot of criticism directed at the anniversary rewards.
These are the reactions: While there are a total of 10 free wishes for all players, it takes 90 wishes for a guaranteed 5-star character. However, there is a chance that you might get a 5-star character before the 90th wish. For players who have been playing for a long time and want specific characters, this is just a drop in the bucket.

Others are surprised that there are such poor bonuses for the first anniversary. One user writes on reddit (via reddit.com):
There is still a long way to the anniversary, so they might have a “One more thing” moment. We don’t know yet.
But for a FIRST anniversary, this looks like a bad joke. The FIRST anniversary is the one with which you want to impress your player base the most. For the 3rd, 4th, etc., you can be cheap. But the first???
I personally hoped for something like a daily draw of the permanent banner [The non-event banner] for at least a month or so.
Why are players so disappointed? Many players are especially disappointed because the developers were already significantly more generous this year. For instance, Mihoyo gifted players a free 4-star character of their choice for the Lantern Festival. Also, with the launch of the new area Inazuma, it was possible to unlock the 4-star character Beidou with some effort.
At least leaks promise the return of several popular 5-star characters, for which saving the wishes might at least be worthwhile – unless you really want to get Raiden Shogun, who will be making her way to Genshin Impact with update 2.1.
“They literally want you to spend more money”
This is what many users criticize: The majority of the criticism is directed at the renewal of the recharge bonuses for real money purchases.
What is this anyway? Mihoyo explained that they are renewing the recharge bonus. Those who spend real money in Genshin Impact will receive double the recharge amount on their first purchase. These are the bonuses in the “Recharge Crystals” window. This way, the higher recharge tiers are especially “worth it”.
If you have already received the recharge bonus, you will only get the normal amount. Now you can receive this bonus again if you spend real money, which many users find bothersome. They feel that the developers just want players to spend even more money on the game.

“Players on all servers will have their double crystal bonus reset, meaning everyone can enjoy it…”
They literally want you to spend more money.
