The current Steam hit Wolcen received a new patch last night, and with patch 1.0.5., new problems arose. The update is said to have reduced the “monster density” to the extent that it is no longer possible to complete the instanced dungeons in high-level expeditions.
In the early weeks after the launch of Wolcen on Steam, there were many complaints that the game was unplayable. With patches, the action RPG became more stable in recent days, but now new complaints are emerging.
This is how expeditions work in Wolcen: After completing the campaign of Wolcen, players primarily engage in expeditions. These correspond to the “Greater Rifts” in Diablo 3. They are randomly generated dungeons.
In these expeditions, one must kill monster groups until a progress bar is filled. After that, you seek out the dungeon’s final boss, defeat them, and then have the option to either finish the expedition or advance to the next level.
Until recently, there were so many monsters in the instances that the monster density was not a problem. There were always enough creatures to comfortably fill the bar before reaching the final boss. Perhaps one had to go back and do an extra round or two if they accidentally visited the boss too early.
Monster density in Wolcen too low – in high level
This is what players are saying now: The complaints that the new update 1.0.5., which was played on the PC servers Wednesday night, has reduced the monster density so much that it is no longer possible to complete certain expeditions. Players say on reddit:
- I started Wolcen after the patch, and immediately had a problem in the expedition. I won’t continue playing until they fix it. Where were the quality testers?
- I did a run. To complete it, I had to search for and find ALL monsters on the map. It’s terrible.
- Especially from level 150 onwards it’s extremely strange.
Does this problem affect everyone? No, it seems to be a problem that some players have, especially at high levels, while others do not.
I was able to comfortably play through expeditions in Wolcen last night with my Psylocke mage, but I’m only around level 60 expeditions. It seems mainly those in higher expeditions are complaining.
For those affected by the problem, it is very frustrating because they have no way to complete the expeditions and it frustrates them.
Players must wait – only 1 update a week for Wolcen
This is especially annoying: Wolcen can only be updated once a week for technical reasons. Therefore, players suffering from the problem will likely have to wait until next week, or they will have to search particularly thoroughly for the monsters.
The patch also nerfed the currently strongest build in Wolcen – the Bleeding Edge skill was ridiculously strong.
