Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has once again released new cosmetics bundles in its in-game store, and included was a weapon bundle themed “New Year”. However, this bundle has little to do with good resolutions, according to some players.
In theory, the Christmas season offers fantastic opportunities to give personal gifts and joy to your loved ones. In practice, there are often gift cards.
But one doesn’t want to complain. Whether for Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox – the credit will find its way somehow. Maybe even in Call of Duty, preferably something colorful.
The selection is large and is constantly being expanded. Recently, there is even a weapon bundle to celebrate the New Year appropriately with fireworks. However, the “Tracer Pack: New Years” bundle is so bad that the price stands out among the already high price tags.

CoD MW2: 1,800 CoD Points for 5 Items without Operator
What is the problem with the bundle? The price is generally already 300 CoD points higher than similar bundles. For 1,800 points, or about 18 €, you only get 5 items, and 2 of them are weapons.
The highlight of the bundle is a weapon blueprint for the assault rifle Lachmann-556. The “Countdown” skin comes with spark tracers and a confetti grenade launcher. In addition, the skin offers the “New Year Dismemberment” effect – a special kill animation.
However, the “tracers” are not visible bullet trails, but only small sparks when the bullets hit something. The special kill animation is also nothing more than a small shower of sparks on the character model of a killed opponent:

The effect is called “Dismemberment”, meaning dismemberment. However, the result could hardly be further away from that.
The only somewhat convincing part is the grenade launcher with the built-in confetti cannon. However, it also only sprays monochromatic sparks, not real fireworks.
If you want to see the bundle in action, here is a video from the English YouTuber Grey, who presents the weapon blueprints in more detail:
What do players say about it? On reddit, a lively discussion has emerged around the bundle. One thread addresses the topic: “There’s no way this bundle costs 1,800 CoD points. The price must be a mistake for only 5 items.”
Within 19 hours, the thread has gained around 1,800 upvotes and collected more than 550 comments. The mood is rather rough, as the CoD pricing policy has long been a major point of criticism on reddit.
It is often stated here that this is a standard price for such a bundle. The “tracers” and the “dismemberment” effect would be quite expensive, even in other bundles.
However, most discussions revolve around the fact that CoD still makes a lot of money with such bundles. The comment with the most upvotes says simply: “People will pay for this”.
Bundles are a topic by themselves in Call of Duty. Many players criticize that CoD MW2, as a full-price title, offers further content for real money. Others are annoyed when colorful, unrealistic skins come into play. However, a large group also celebrates the cosmetics and is happy to buy in the shop.
