FIFA 22 Ultimate Team can be quite challenging with Rivals and Weekend League. The “Silver Lounge” offered a relaxed alternative – but that’s no longer the case, say some players.
What mode is it about? The “Silver Lounge” is actually not a competitive game mode like Division Rivals or Weekend League, but takes place within Live Friendlies. Here, you can only compete with silver players.
However, one can definitely score rewards for Silver Lounge players. There are always tasks that require goals and victories in the Silver Lounge and can earn the user packs or special cards. This includes the “Silver Stars”, which provide one card each week.
Above all, the Silver Lounge is a way to play with “unusual” players. Players who would be too weak in the Weekend League. Accordingly, in the Silver Lounge, one encounters teams that one would not meet in the proverbial forest of meta teams in competitive modes.
However, some players are criticizing the development of the Silver Lounge. The reason: An event that was not that long ago.
Do silver meta cards ruin the Silver Lounge?
What is the problem? Recently there was a special “Silver Stars” event where many strong silver cards could be obtained at once, instead of just once a week. Through SBCs or tasks, one could obtain very special cards. These included:
- A 74-rated version of Kevin de Bruyne with very strong stats for a silver card
- Wylan Cyprien received a card with 74 overall, but all stats above 80 – thus as a silver card, he even belongs to the infamous “Gullit Gang”, which consists of well-rounded top cards.
- Paul Pogba with his 5-star skills was also there.
- Other strong cards were available for Reinier from Dortmund, defender Leitsch, Lukas Podolski, forward Elanga, Marco Reus, and more.
In short: Many silver players emerged who deserve the label “meta player” – with high stats that set them apart from the “normal” silver cards.
On the one hand, it was a cool, varied event idea. But now there is a problem with the cards.
What players say: In the FIFA subreddit, you can follow several discussions concerning these cards.
Right from the start of the event, there were comments like this one: User “LaLigaDan” wrote: “Looks like my Silver team is completely Premier League after this promo,” to which another replied: “Looks like that’s the case for everyone. This will be a boring mode in the future” (via reddit).
Now there are voices that sound exactly like this concern:
- User “NoChillGuy17” writes: “EA has ruined Silver Stars for this FIFA.” Silver Stars was a relaxed mode, with very few special cards, with a lot of variation in teams. “Now it’s just become FUT Champs 2.0. Everyone has the same group of 7 or 8 players who just spam their Elasticos and Ball Roll Scoops while playing on 10 depth and hitting long balls” (via reddit).
- Another wrote: “I never understood why people liked this promo. Imagine collecting Silver Stars to get the best team, and then EA ignores that and releases these cards. One of the worst promos ever in FIFA” (via reddit).
- User “Hyperactive” sees it a bit differently: “I mean, the creativity may have decreased in the teams, but if everyone has these teams, then it’s still a balanced game, right?” (via reddit).
The general problem exists in FIFA, and especially in Ultimate Team, but it is not new. Namely, that ordinary cards are overshadowed by special versions that are hardly beatable unless you use them yourself.
What do you think about this topic? Do you play in the Silver Lounge? And what do you generally think about special cards in FIFA? Let us know in the comments!
At least the silver cards are not particularly expensive. The opposite of cheap, however, is the Champions League card from Kimpembe – and it just received a significant hit.
