World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV are two of the biggest MMORPGs. Each of the two representatives of the genre has its own fanbase. Players are now comparing how the endgame content feels in both titles. They come to a curious comparison.
How does the endgame in Final Fantasy XIV feel? The user DarlElfMagic
in the reddit forum asks the community which of the two MMORPGs they prefer. For him, FF14 is clearly the preferred MMORPG. He feels he has more control over events in this game than in World of Warcraft.
Both the story and the different races are better designed in Final Fantasy XIV than in WoW. The stories are even part of the raids. Each race feels unique as well. Additionally, every raid in FF14 is rewarded, whereas in WoW, it can happen that you receive nothing.
Many other users agree, especially regarding the raids: In FF14, everything feels more structured. Players have to watch many tutorial videos beforehand to understand the boss mechanics. This makes them better prepared than players in WoW.
Final Fantasy XIV has recently been expanded with the Dawntrail DLC. In the following trailer, you can check out the add-on:
FF14 is structured, WoW is pure chaos
How does the endgame in World of Warcraft feel? The Mythic Plus raids are, on the other hand, the best there is in MMORPGs. User Lamplorde describes the raids as a test of strength, where you have to drink a can of Red Bull and prove that you can parallel park while listening to thrash metal in a car full of drunk metalheads.
What he means with the comparison he explains further:
- WoW is not based on memory but on reaction. You can improve both with practice. In World of Warcraft, you only need to watch fewer videos.
- WoW is more “trial and error.” Personally, he preferred WoW because FF14 feels too structured and therefore more stressful. You feel as if you have to study for a test and are afraid of failing.
Other users agree with him that they have more fun with WoW for these reasons. Final Fantasy XIV feels “more robotic” than World of Warcraft because the mechanics in Square Enix’s MMORPG are much more static.
Which one is better? User Gallina_Fina
summarizes well that neither of the two MMORPGs outshines the other. Rather, each game has its strengths and weaknesses.
FF14 has more structured boss fights, where you don’t need too quick of a reaction time as long as you know the boss mechanic.
WoW relies much more on reactions. It is more fun, and each individual group member can contribute much more to the end result of a raid.
That said, you have to decide for yourself which of the two MMORPGs suits your taste better. Both Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft will even receive larger expansions this year, enticing players with new content.
