The Pokémon GO players of the Greek island of Salamina can celebrate. After loud protests, Niantic has reacted and reactivated the spawns on the island after 7 months.
The situation was as follows: A few days ago, a call for help echoed through the Pokémon GO community. A player reported on reddit that there had been no spawns on the island of Salamina for 7 months.
In the letter, he explained the situation to the players: One could raid and use items like Lures or Incense, but the normal spawns remained absent.
The trainer wanted to reach Niantic because various messages to support went unheard. Now there is news in this case: The spawns on the island are back!
Spawns are back – player gives thanks
This is what happened: On reddit Giannhsblazer spoke up again and wrote that the spawns are back. Not just on Salamina, but also on the other islands in the Saronic Gulf. These were also affected by this error.
In the end, the polite trainer thanked all the players and online platforms that brought attention to this problem and shared his call for help. He says: “I would like to personally thank each and every one of you. I would really do it if I could. This is the joy you have given us.”
Why were there these problems? The background was the update 0.137.1, which was implemented in March 2019. This also included changes to the OSM map.
This map indicated the entire region of the Saronic Gulf as a protected area, and Niantic does not allow Pokémon to spawn in such locations in Pokémon GO. After all, they do not want to destroy special nature through wild Pokémon hunters.
The players of the Greek islands were naturally upset, as they could play here without problems in previous years.
Thus, the joy is even greater that the spawns are finally back after 7 months. The call was apparently a complete success, and Niantic listened to the players.
Not only are the spawns on the island back. PokéStops can also be submitted again:
