The latest Guild Wars 2 patch introduced an endless teleport to a friend in the real-money shop. However, clever players immediately found a way to exploit this item. ArenaNet pulled the emergency brake.
What can the new item do? The teleport to a friend from the Black Lion Chest has existed for years. With its help, you can teleport to a friend in the open world, no matter where they are.
The new item “Recharge Teleport to Friend,” introduced with the episode “Eternal War“, works endlessly, but it has a one-hour recharge time. This time applies per character and not per account.
How have players exploited the teleport? Some clever players quickly realized that they could rapidly transport newly created characters to any location in the world.
Specifically, the Bloodstone Fen map, designed for level 80 characters, is ideal for exploration rewards. There are no heart tasks, only locations that need to be uncovered while passing by. This can be done, as evidenced by this video from July 2018, in under two minutes:
As a reward for exploring a map, players receive Unbound Magic, random gear, and a Transmutation Charge or a Black Lion Key. According to Guildwiki, the chance of getting such a key is about 25%.
The key normally costs 125 gems and is used to open Black Lion chests, which also contain items from the shop.
Players repeatedly deleted old characters for the exploit and created new ones to explore the map again. This allowed them to earn multiple keys per hour, which normally is not possible since a map can only be explored once per character.

How are the developers responding? The developers responded surprisingly quickly to this error and temporarily removed Black Lion Keys and Transmutation Charges from the map completion rewards overnight.
While many players wonder why the endless teleport to a friend was not disabled, they are pleased with the developers’ swift response.
What is the mood in the new patch? The exploit is only a minor issue and has garnered little attention. The collections for the new mount Skyscale, however, are very complex, which some players are not happy about.
Nevertheless, the episode “Eternal War” is well received by the players. Especially the new map is receiving a lot of praise.
