Some players of Genshin Impact view the new characters very positively, finding them exciting and varied. MeinMMO tells you what fans love about the weaker characters and the game.
Normally, most heroes in Genshin Impact work on the same principle:
- The attack must be high
- the critical damage should be at 180% or higher
- the value of critical hit rate should ideally be at 1/3 of the critical damage
The vast majority of characters benefit from these stats, and that’s why some players are celebrating the new characters in a reddit thread, as the trend with them is shifting in another direction (via reddit).
“The new heroes seem weaker but are exciting”
Reddit user RavenShadow7 opened a thread discussing how exciting he finds the new characters. He pulled Kokomi just because she couldn’t crit. It was something new, different, and with the new artifact set, she will only get better.
Moreover, Gorou and Itto are also bringing some excitement to the game with the second new artifact set. The two benefit from defense and, unusually, not from attack. The higher their defense, the more damage or buffs they distribute.
RavenShadow7 sees this as a shift for the Geo element and hopes it will be strengthened now.
He also sees a trend towards 4-star supports. For example, Thoma as support for Hu Tao and Sara for Raiden Shogun is a useful niche. Thoma works perfectly with Hu Tao because, due to his long internal cooldown with the pyro waves of his shield, he doesn’t steal any hydro reactions from her.
Gorou seems to only support the Geo element as a new 4-star character, helping heroes like Itto. RavenShadow7 is fascinated by characters like Kokomi, who simply function completely differently from the rest.
He also hopes that this will make Bennett less necessary. Currently, he is almost considered essential to strengthen team members.
This is what other players say under the post: RavenShadow receives some support, as Mekazuaquaness says:
I like that Gorou makes me use older Geo characters that I normally don’t use. I just want it to be fun and strong at the same time. The Kokomi artifact set will make Kokomi more fun to use as she can convert healing to damage and will be easier to build. Off-field healers, like Qiqi and Barbara, could also benefit from the artifact set.

Yuehane also shares this opinion:
The good thing is: While some supports seem weaker at the moment, it’s very easy to add a future character or a new artifact set to make them really good or potentially even the best character for the task. (…) I really hope that we will get more unique characters like Kokomi. It’s a nice change to not just focus on crit substats everywhere. (…)

However, there are also some discussions and criticisms:
It’s not exciting. New characters don’t seem useful or worth pulling. They are too niche. Gorou is only good for Albedo and Itto, while Sara is good for Raiden. Kokomi’s inability to crit is a bad design choice.

Overall, however, players are ready for innovation if it is effectively and efficiently integrated into Genshin Impact. For example, Kokomi came a bit too early and lacked suitable equipment, which will now be added in patch 2.3.
Players want more positivity in the “Genshin Impact” community
Many players are annoyed that there is constant complaining about Genshin Impact. Reddit user Defora opened an “Anti-Complaint” thread, encouraging people to report or mention positive things about the game (via reddit).
He mentions the beautiful scenery and the ability to immerse himself in it. He also praises the characters and style of the game. Additionally, Defora likes the PvE system and the ability to take time for gearing his characters.
In the thread, there are 659 comments, which are mostly positive and rave about Genshin Impact:
- FakeEpistemologist praises, like hundreds of others, the music: “The music. As a musician, I am absolutely thrilled with the musical direction. Not only the quality but also the respect for the various cultures. For a game that is basically a mobile game, it didn’t have to be that good. I can’t stop praising how much effort they put into the music.”
- Rough-Inevitable-805 writes: “What makes me love Genshin Impact is the open-world gameplay and the beautiful scenery. I don’t mind grinding for artifacts because when I get a good one, I feel totally happy.”
- Ireliaplaceable loves all aspects of Genshin: “It is one of the best games I have ever played. The music is top-notch, the gameplay is fun, the environment is expansive, the character design is undoubtedly the BEST, and the story and lore are fantastic. Not to forget, it’s the best game when you have an 8-hour job every day.”
Players continue to praise the various small interactions and dialogues between the characters. The little details in the regions and the characters themselves are also frequently mentioned.
Defora’s thread provides a welcome change for those of you who want to take away some positivity about and around Genshin Impact instead of the usual negative criticism.
