Sea of Thieves has only recently been released, but it is already causing discussions about a lack of content. Players are concerned that there simply isn’t enough to do in the pirate adventure.
The release of Sea of Thieves took place on March 20th and leaves some players unsatisfied.
There is discussion about why one should even return to the game after a few hours of play. Too little content and customization options are worrying fans.
Too Few Customization Options
On Reddit, players are writing that the customization options in Sea of Thieves are too limited for them. “I would achieve my ideal character look after only a few purchases […] after that, it’s just more grinding to become a pirate legend,” writes Reddit user magvadis, who is disappointed with the customization offerings in Sea of Thieves.
User Axisrahl85 adds, “I am a defender of this game, but I was also a bit disappointed by the few [customization] options that were presented. I would have thought we would see much more than what was in the final beta.”
In the thread, it is often read that players wished for more cosmetic options after the beta phases, but compared to the beta, practically only the price has changed. “Just increasing the price of cosmetic items tenfold is not an addition of content,” writes user Petrel_. “This isn’t new gameplay or content you’ve added. It’s just lazy.”
Buyers of the game are unsure what long-term goals to pursue in Sea of Thieves. Achieving legend status, essentially the big goal, likely involves a lot of grinding. And what else does one earn gold for, if the cosmetic options are limited? Many players already consider Sea of Thieves fun but wish for more content.
More Content is Already on the Agenda
The website IGN received a response from Rare to the current concerns. Sea of Thieves Producer Joe Neate addressed the longevity concerns of the game. He stated Sea of Thieves was always intended to be a game that grows and evolves. The developers will continue to release new cosmetic options as part of this growth.
New mechanics and “ways to play” are also part of these ongoing updates. The focus at the game’s launch is to provide a great initial experience.
After the launch, feedback from players is reviewed and acted upon accordingly. “We collaborated with the community during the development of Sea of Thieves, and that will continue exactly as after the launch,” the developers said in their statement to the US site IGN.
So, we can look forward to when and what further cosmetic options, mechanics, and “ways to play” Sea of Thieves will receive in the coming weeks or months. Do you have features in mind that you believe would enhance the game?
